Speaking to Yahoo on the red carpet at the Sydney premiere, Thor director, Taika Waititi, said the decision to get the superstar's gear off for Thor: Love and Thunder was all about the cash.

'Quietly, in a business sense, I think we might sell a few more tickets.'

In the scene teased in the trailer, a muscled Chris exposes his bare bottom after all of his clothes are blown off.

Taika went on to say that filming a nude scene with Chris Hemsworth was a spectacle that attracted a larger than usual crowd of onlookers on set.
'Everyone from the production office and accounting office happened to turn up and just needed to talk to the crew members about getting their invoices and time cards [in that day].'

'I mean, personally, he's worked so hard on all of this [his body], it would be weird not to show it, don't you think?' Taiki said.

exactly! imagine saying this about a woman's body? "she worked hard in all of that" like a piece of meat.

if it's ok to say it about a man but offensive towards woman shows sexism to both!

Well in this case it's two people who are (likely) close friends and share the same sense of humor. That is, if I'm to believe their interviews.

I don't think it's an offensive thing to say regardless of gender - as long as there's a mutual understanding and respect between the one who's saying it and the one being spoken about. Context matters.

I think it all depends on the context of their relationship though. Chris and Taika seem like good friends and I’m inclined to believe that if Chris had a serious issue with it, he would’ve just told him directly.

It happened before, both explicitly and no explicitly. Women have been used and exploited by men in the industry since forever (and still are)

I'm not saying men deserve the same treatment, but ideally this could help men see what women have to go through every day :samanthac: and I say ideally, because I know most men will still put themselves first as the only victims :laughga:

I mean it’s 100% admirations of Chris’ hard work and body, like the Greeks admired the men body, there’s nothing sexual or creepy in his statement.

Plus ass is not nudity, it’s just an ass, just like boobs..

Stop making a problem of no problem.

Come on and wrap that blade of grass around my hairy ass

Stop making false equivocations. Women have been tricked and forced into appearing nude on film for years at the behest of male filmmakers to sell tickets. A confident man in a very established franchise who has a lot of power and input on set choosing to appear naked is not abuse. Lying to Sharon Stone about whether audiences would see her vagina in Basic Instinct and then using the footage anyway is abuse. Chris Hemsworth has the authority to ask for a closed set if he wants and obviously trusts Taika and the crew. Not all sexual attraction is abuse. Sexual exploitation without consent is abuse.
