On one hand it feels kind of like a consolation price, but on the other it *is* an Oscar, and she's finally getting one after all the hard work she's put into it. i totally get that, but she can still win in the future right? i would def be conflicted

StrawberryBlond 15,376
It doesn't make it clear if this is counted as actually winning an award. I thought certain special awards are just an honour, that's it, and an honour isn't the same as an award. But I think this seems like the real deal. I don't really see it as an insult, it's just that Diane, like many others, is unfortunate to always get pipped to the post because there's always at least one more nominee who's that little bit better and always vies for awards in highly competitive years. I wonder if this is the academy's way of basically saying that you don't stand a chance of winning in future, though? This is just to reassure you that you are seen and appreciated and aren't deliberately being strung along year after year just to pad out the nominations. And perhaps to ensure that the academy don't let you win for a lesser piece of work one day just because it may be your last chance to win.
Anderson123 41,824
This is actually pretty good for her. She should've gotten one years ago and is one of the most respected songwriters in the industry so it's pretty crazy to think she hasn't won one already. An honorary award is very important, it's not a "pity award". So many legends have come and go and never got the recognition they deserve so it's nice that they do this now when she's still alive. I guess if I’d been nominated THAT many times I’d be like, seriously? You just give me one? It would feel, to me, condescending lmao

Helxig 44,893
She actually deserves it! But she also deserves to have her moment, get up in front of everyone, read the speech she's been holding onto for like 30 years. But this is good too! I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
