He looks like a normal everyday guy. That's nice for a change.

REALITY

So we expect female artists to dress up in extravagent costumes, with every seam perfect and every little crystal on their outfit oriented correctly, and people get mad if they don't get it just right. Meanwhile male artists literally go on stage dressed as elementary school substitute teachers and people scream for them... :selena:

I love most of JT’s music.
But it Breaks my Soul (Available to stream Tonight) to see how low the standards are for Male Artists these days!

It's less the fault (if we consider this a wrong) of the artist than how society defines gender. These artists present themselves based on how masculinity/femininity is defined according to society, and simplicity happens to be quite integral to masculine presentations. Of course they could contest existing definitions, Harry Styles and Lil Nas X clearly do, but I don't think it's wrong for Timberlake (or Sheeran or everyone else) per se to choose not to.

As a gay male navigating through the gay scene, I don't think it's fair people expect me to contest the status quo just because I'm gay. Am I supposed to be seen as backwards and self-hating because I dress like a normal guy? If not, then why do we keep saying these things under videos of straight male pop stars who are not Harry Styles or Lil Nas X, as if there is something wrong with wearing less extravagant clothes?
