I was that user. I explained in the post you quoted just now that since he self identified as a democratic socialist, coupled with the fact that he’s in a Latin American country, that he MAY be more to the left of AOC, but that further reflection upon his policies, that he’s not radically left wing.

AOC isn’t extremely left wing at all. She’s comparable to many center left politicians across the world. Not sure why AOC is a baseline for how leftist someone is. AOC’s voting record can even be considered center-right at times. She has literally voted to expand the military and give money to Israel recently.

I guess to be fair I don't know in detail all of her proposals or her general voting history

 

I do know she wanted a 70% income tax rate (which with State Taxes would make the total 80% to 85% depending on the State). That is higher than the rate any democracy has. Even Scandinavian top rate taxes aren't that high

 

Also there's a lot for crap to drag and fix about the corporate world but her wording and tone would almost suggest she doesn't want those businesses to even exist and hates them or something

Also I dunno how much voting alone says. Given sometimes compromises are necessary (because other stuff may be included in a package u want to pass) and sometimes it's a yes or no. It's not like when u vote ur exact idea of what u think is fair goes thru

 

I could be wrong but didn't many increases to military get approved with conditions for other stuff in return for support? Couldn't that be the reason she voted for increase in military?

 

Feel free to correct me, my knowledge of AOC is fragmentary to a few policies I heard her speak about and some interviews

I’m not an expert on the subject, but I’m pretty sure Mexico’s AMLO and this new Colombian president are not violent actors either. These aren’t “revolutionary socialists” hence the name “democratic socialist” or social democrats. 
 

My main point is that it’s all the same to United States, who would rather have Latin America completely liberalize and privatize itself to American corporations.

The narrative is ALWAYS that if there’s even just a little bit of protectionism or regulation they’re automatically Venezuela or Cuba. It’s ludicrous.

No, you’re right it’s very nuanced. The thing is it’s very different when you look at what a politician SAYS and what they actually DO/VOTE. 

AOC is “far left” in US standards but pretty center-left otherwise.

I would bet the current USA administration is happy with Borić (his opponent, Kast, was dumber and an actual neonazi, Bolsonaro is just a warm up if u we’re gonna meet this Kast man). Boric a serious man unlike AMLO. Petro used to be a guerrilla fighter, a man who has picked up arms against other Colombians.
