It's a fine line between a gay anthem and a weirdly commodifying song that gets it wrong, like Billie's "Wish You Were Gay." Even Taylor got flack for "You Need to Calm Down" and honestly she executed that video as best as any straight pop star could by featuring queer artists, paying and treating them well, making a queer artist her co-exec producer, and tethering it to a petition for actual political change.
