Yeah, I Need A Doctor was a Dr Dre song with Eminem on it and she did the chorus, it went to #4. She's done multiple songs with Eminem since, on her albums and his. Those songs are literally the only times that her songs chart, so it's no surprise that she's encouraged to stay on the hip hop side. Labels like their artists to stick to what they know and are good at so if they realise she's abandoning that completely, they don't want to know. They may well tell artists of other genres to remain in those as well. Interscope also have pop, rock, alternative and country acts on their roster, I'm pretty sure they're not being told to be hip hop. Olivia Rodrigo is on Interscope and makes pop rock and she's the most successful artist on the label at this precise moment in time, after all.

With Howard Stern and a few other interviews. The story, as she tells it, is that Interscope wanted a ballad from her and overall more lowkey music thanks to the success of Lorde and Adele so she became so frustrated she said f*ck it and gave them Dope.

i imagine she wrote I wanna be with you but from the leak it sounds a bit “bigger” and more bombastic so the “rebellion” was hunkering down and rewriting the song from the melody up and giving them what was a VERY sparse and intense ballad.
