100% this. Not to dismiss how much work that goes into her craft, but she demonstrated with chromatica how seamlessly she can get back into dance pop as she desires. With the accessibility of music via streaming, I foresee so many more hits in her future.

She showed us at almost 34 and after a 7 year hiatus from pop music, the b!tch can always bring it.

This is true.

IDK.

I definitely think my expectations for this song were too high because of what I saw happen with "Shallow."

For example, in the last 15 years, there have been about 60 songs nominated for Best Original Song at the Oscars, right?

WELL. Only seven of those nominees actually climbed into the top 10.

1. Skyfall

2. Let It Go

3. Happy

4. Earned It

5. Can't Stop the Feeling

6. Shallow

7. All the Stars

I love how delusional Gaga‘s fans are. Joanne was pop, and so was The Cure and a good chunk of ASIB. Pop Gaga never truly left.

Sorry *dance pop. Joanne, The Cure, and ASIB are different flavors of pop, but not the kind of dance pop that consists of the majority of her discography.

Been a cuff touple, a puff bupple, a tough couple of years.

I mean SL, a solo song with almost no promo, went top 5 despite the whole world listening to the leak for over a month prior. People love her dance pop music, I think any time she releases dance pop it will do reasonably well.

it got good playlisting (compared to HMH's laughable one) + ASIB hype

it crashed and burned right after...

I can’t believe my delusional ass thought this would go top 10 when the rumors started last year. I worry about her getting another top 10 hit. She’s only getting older and we know how sexist the music industry is to offer females.

In addition to having to deal with ageism, I believe Billboard's new rules giving so much weight to social media stuff like 30 second song clips on TikTok and less to radio/purchases is really going to hurt her. H*ll, it hurt Kendrick and he has a lot of streaming power, unlike Gaga and a lot of the pop girls, but his tracks just don't get traction on social media. Also, I still don't understand why HMH doesn't have better playlisting when songs that charted even lower seem to be on more playlists...

Anyway, it will be interesting to see if she sticks to dance pop or strays into more experimental pop or more mainstream pop ballads...The audience for dance pop in itself tends to be fairly ageist.

Hoped it would get into the top 20 but this is a proper growth nonetheless, so it looks like it could get better. For those worried about it not having the same runaway success as Shallow, you have to realise we are dealing with a movie that doesn't involve music in its plot, like ASIB did, so, naturally, the music doesn't pack quite the same punch as it isn't needed to enjoy the film. You'll notice that most films are like that, with the exception of Titanic, maybe. The likes of The Bodyguard, Dirty Dancing, Saturday Night Fever, Purple Rain, The Greatest Showman, etc. had massive soundtrack success because the music was a huge part of their story whereas this isn't the case for Top Gun. So, with that in mind, HMH is doing just fine. Just let it do it's thing in its own time.

Also, it is undoubtedly the biggest song from a movie released this year so far. Even rapper of the moment Doja's Vegas song isn't having a breakthrough despite being released at the same time and there's no hype for Taylor's upcoming movie song either. There won't be any names bigger than Gaga making soundtrack songs this year, so, this is a major advantage it will have going into the Oscars race. Also, if she gets nominated, she'll undoubtedly perform it at the Oscars, which will hopefully give it some last minute reigniting in the public consciousness. Don't forget, she may well perform at the Grammys too, where she'll also have a big chance. And she'll probably be up for best score at both events as well!

Well it crashed and burned because she didn't even acknowledge it after it was released. Literally not a single performance or TV interview or anything.

Joanne and ASIB aren’t even close to the kind of pop music this fanbase wants, so @Dr Fudge’s point is very much relevant.

I mean great visibility on streaming services is what you mostly need to succeed these days and those impressive initial numbers showed that people were well aware of its existence, they just didn't bother to come back... rom though did great (and it could have done way more!)

but we seem to agree on one thing... they just don't seem to be that good at promoting her music
