This is is a horror show. Do I care about some random side plot if he's gay? Not really.

I mean... the sexuality of every other character was made blatantly clear... STRAIGHT. It's like this on purpose

I get the representation issues, but at the same time the show is set in the 80’s and a teenager coming out publicly would probably not make a lot of sense “In Universe”. If they chose to do it I wouldn’t expect Will to be all up in our faces showing his pride

I agree with the teenager coming out in the 80’s not making a lot of sense thing.

The show has actually made little throwaway quips about Will all the way back to season 1. He’s been called a fairy, his dad thought he was gay, his best friend told him “it’s not my fault you’re not into girls”, Etc. There’s been little holes jabbed in Will since his adolescence and that would weigh on a kid.

For me, “the beauty of it” is the writers subtle nods throughout the seasons. It’s apart of Wills character arc from the beginning. If he’s not gay, he’s just an 80’s teenager subjected to the very real bullying that occurred, either consciously or unconsciously, by is family, friends, and bully’s. If he is gay, we’re apart of the speculation that takes place in so many adolescent lives, are they gay? are they not? Why the hell should we even care to be speculating? Let the boy grow up and decide for himself who he prefers.

Well, yes, but also very much no. Robin is right there.

That's a good point! But for some reason it's always been different when it comes to portraying gays vs lesbians. Gay/bi men just don't get great representation because it's 'too polarising' for audiences and 'not as marketable' :koons:

I really loved Robin being gay though! That was such a good twist
