I know it's unpopular, but I think BTW as a single is just ok, it had so much hype that it turned out to be lacklustre but the album as a whole is my favourite of hers and that song is probably the only weak spot. I also think Ain't No Other Man by Xtina was just ok but Back To Basics as a whole was one of her best. And it just felt like Lana was retreading old ground when she put out Let Me Love You Like A Woman, it seemed so paint-by-numbers for her, yet the Chemtrails album is one of my favourites, even if the rest of the fanbase underrates it.

I think a lot of artists put out a lacklustre lead single because the lead is meant to be the one that appeals to the public the most to launch the campaign, so it makes sense that they tend to be very basic, pedestrian, not experimental. That kinda stuff is saved for album tracks for the fans.

Back when Born This Way came out I had my doubts about it. Sure the message is one of the best things she has done in her career but as a lead single I thought it wasn't up to Bad Romance, the song grew on me though. She also said that Born This Way was the marijuana to the heroine of the album and I agree with that. It was a little tease to some of her best songs in her career and whenever I rank from favorite to least favorites, the lead single is almost at the bottom of it because of how GOOD the rest of the album is.

I can not stand A-Yo. It is the cringiest song Gaga has ever made in my opinion but she loved it so much I felt bad I didn’t like it.

100% agreed! She really thought this song would become as big as Uptown Funk on the "Joanne making of" videos :laughga:

Omg yes, Good Ones was amazing and great for a single/even a lead single, but releasing New Shapes, Baby, and Beg For You (as the official second single) was a disgrace to the album. Literally the worst tracks in my opinion. I think instead of those three they should have released Used To Know Me, Yuck, and Constant Repeat and/or Lightning

Am I the only one who loves Beg For You :bradley:

But yes I would have done Yuck as the 2nd single after Good Ones. I think New Shapes took a lot of the steam out of the Good Ones hype.

Exactly, I can love a message but not the actual song that's the vehicle for it. I'm the same with TIHTY. It's such a powerful and important message, so I feel almost guilty for not being all that into it. But a message and a song operate on different planes. And yes, the rest of BTW is so good that even if you did like the lead single, surely it pales in comparison when you hear the rest of the album? I'm like that with Lana's albums - you think you love the lead and then you hear the rest of it and you're like, as crazy as it sounds, what I thought sounded excellent may now be ranked last if we're taking it down to the wire on this ranking!

I would have done this -

Lead Single: Good Ones

Second Single: Yuck

Promotional Single: Baby

Third Single: Constant Repeat

Fourth Single: New Shapes

Fifth Single:  Used To Know Me

the album is flawless but I Really Like You is not one of the highlights from the album (nearly every other song is perfection)

Should've been

First Single: Run Away With Me

Promotional Single: All That

Second Single: Emotion

Third Single: Boy Problems

Fourth Single: Gimmie Love

Joanne! Minus Million Reasons which is amazing.

Perfect Illusion sounds absolutely incredible in the middle of the album but very meh on its own. And A-YO is easily one of my least favorite Gaga songs

The rollout should've been:

First Single: Million Reasons

Second Single: Dancin In Circles

Promotional Single: Joanne

Third Single: John Wayne

Fourth Single: Diamond Heart
