I love Carey, but this was a bad choice on everyone's parts imo. She's playing a Latina-a white Latina, but still a Latina who was born in Costa Rica and raised in Chile. Her name was Felicia Montealegre (I know as my grandma loved her). Casting a white British woman to play her was...not a good idea. The press was fairly critical of Javier being cast to play a Cuban, and at least Javier is Spanish so there are some cultural ties to Latin America. TLDR: The press is going to tear into everyone over this casting choice considering the reaction to Javier in that recent Lucy movie (even Sorkin was asked about it multiple times). *Personally, I have...mixed feelings about it. I'm Latina, but not white..and my first thought is I don't really care about a white person playing another white person. At the same time, unless you are white white (not even spicy white lol, a la Ana, but extremely yt a la Anya or Cameron Diaz)....there is still a lot of prejudice in Hollywood against Latinas. So it feels pretty sh*tty to cast her when there are a ton of Latinas out there, such as Ana (who apparently was who Jake G wanted to cast when he was trying to win the rights) out there Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
