Actually Broadway is doing something about their ticket prices. They announced a new program today where people can get tickets for as low as $50. Most shows also hold daily lotteries for $25 tickets in the first 20 rows or so. They are making it more accessible for the average person.

Gaga on the other hand has some of the highest ticket prices out there due to lack of dates, high demand, and a ridiculous resale market as well as Ticketmaster's Platinum scam. I'm sorry that I can't be ok with it. I just can't. In these times, it is outrageous to believe that the average person would be comfortable paying those prices. I know I'm not the poorest person on the planet, but with the cost of living in the world, these prices are insane. And to tell people "you don't have to go. You can just watch it on YouTube" is like telling Cinderella she can watch the Ball from her bedroom window. Gaga's received more awards? Fantastic. She's got a crazy successful Las Vegas residency? Job well done. However, I just don't understand. And maybe that's ok.

Sidenote- I'm not attacking Gaga. I'm attacking the system which is organizing this tour and deepening the divide between the haves and the have nots.

Broadway has always also had tkts where you can get same day reduced price tickets for Broadway shows for shows that aren’t sold out. Broadway shows do need to recoup but they would prefer at least some tickets sales rather than none if people aren’t buying the regularly priced tickets. Maybe there other programs to make tickets accessible but that would still be a business decision, Broadway isn’t a basic resource that they are obligated to make available to everyone, as much as they want as many people as possible to see the shows.  At the end of the day Broadway shows will close if they can’t justify their operating expenses, and ticket prices are part of the equation

Tours are different from Broadway. Broadways rent a venue for a certain period of time and give themselves A certain period of time for people to “discover” the show. A tour comes into a city once, maybe twice, and then is gone, so they really need to make their money on those shows. They calculate what they need to charge to be able to justify the cost of bringing the tour there. This calculation changes based on the demand in each city and the costs, and so tickets prices vary widely from city to city. The costs of everythjng in the world have increased due to normal inflation but even more than usual lately due to the supply chain crisis, gas prices, etc. All the reasons you actually talk about as to what makes life more expensive and difficult for us normal people also affects businesses like the live touring industry. Also, they are trying to recover from two years of lost revenue.
it’s understandable the frustration is not being able to afford the tickets you want or feel entitled to as a big fan but the reality is everything costs more now and it’s not just Gaga tickets.

Some of y'all really whine over almost everything connected Gaga. Let's even be grateful that she's continuing on with the tour at all when so many were SO insistent that it was a no go.

Yes, valid criticism is inevitable, but remember she's only one person.

Being a theatre artist, I understand what you're saying. It's just the whole soapbox of "watch it on YouTube" that just really grinds my gears. I was actually going to buy tickets for Chicago the day I was let go from my job back in March of 2020. Then my friend bought us tickets for London, and I lost so much money that I can no longer afford to go visit her and see the show. And now, with added dates, I see prices exceeding 500 bucks, it is indeed frustrating.

I see someone got good seats for 200. I'd honestly be willing to pay that, but to know that I could have had that price for pit if I could have bought for Chicago back in 2020....once again, the pandemic screwed everything up. I'm having my Evita "Screw the middle classes" rant phase.

To be fair you said you would take $500+ and see a few Broadway shows.  That is literally no different then people paying $500 to see Gaga once. That’s just what you think gives you the most value for your money. Even if you don’t realize it, you are entitled and privileged  for the exact same reasons you are saying everyone else is. You are one of the ‘haves’.

I should make a clarification: IF I had 500$ to spend on such entertainments.

I can see why it would seem harsh to hear “watch it in YouTube” when you know you want to see it live. It’s obviously not the same thing and it sounds dismissive of your disappointment to just offer that up as something you should be satisfied with instead.  You’re entitled to be disappointed for sure. And it always sucks when you’re aware you could have afforded something but then circumstances and a pandemic make it unattainable. I’m so sorry to hear you lost your job. That is a super stressful situation and everything feels worse in that position. And when it manifests itself into very clear losses like not being able to fly to visit a friend and see a show that would really suck. I’m sorry sis. If there is a show you can possibly afford to go to, maybe just get the cheap seats and go. The crowd and the energy will still be amazing wherever you sit. Maybe just being there and not missing it entirely will be better than not going at all.

I quite honestly will probably shop around and go to a show. This is just a reaction to the present circumstances. And then when I read people being so dismissive, like you said, it just set me off.

The entitled tone of your replies is ridiculous. I don't go to shows because they're cheap. I don't like Ed Sheeran or Coldplay, but you know what, I'd rather take 500+ USD and go see a few Broadway shows than ONE concert. Clearly you speak from a position of some privelege, and it's quite aggravating. Yes Gaga is amazing, and some of you are right- as a massive fan, I don't want to sit in the cheap seats. I want to be up close and personal. However much I want that though, I'm not going to sacrifice my financial security and well-being for that experience.

I find it very ironic that someone who has been to seven Gaga shows would say that I am privileged when I have never seen a Gaga show in my life.

You need to do a self-analysis urgently.
