UPDATE UPDATE: three things

1. Ncuti is pronounced 'shooty'

2. Interestingly the press release doesn't say he's the 'Fourteenth Doctor', or even 'the next Doctor', just that he's 'the new Doctor' :partysick:

3. He will be PERFECT. If you haven't already, watch him in Sex Education for his brilliant handling of pathos, humour, emotional complexity... He's a star. The perfect choice

ORIGINAL STORY

In the past 10 minutes, the following image - depicting two hearts and a TARDIS-like blue box - has been shared on Instagram by Bad Wolf (the production company behind the upcoming series of Doctor Who), Russell T Davies (its incoming showrunner) and... Sex Education's Ncuti Gatwa.

With the new Doctor allegedly set to begin filming within a matter of weeks, could Ncuti Gatwa be a major part of the new series? Could he even be the Fourteenth Doctor?

29-year-old Ncuti is best known for Sex Education (which films in Wales, as does Doctor Who) and is exactly at the right level of fame to take a lead role in a series of this calibre. Fans of the show have speculated that the new Doctor will be revealed on Saturday, 14 May (as part of the promotion of the FA Cup final or the Eurovision Song Contest final), but, with both Russell T Davies and Ncuti Gatwa attending tonight's BAFTA TV Awards, could an announcement be coming even sooner than we think...?

The future is here.

Yesss, I stopped watching when Moffat took over. And now it's Russell and Bad Wolf Productions returning, so that's Julie Gardner as well? :bradley:

You're in luck! Not only is Russell back (the greatest TV writer of all time), but he's joined by Phil Collinson (producer 2005–8), Jane Tranter (the enormously supportive BBC Controller of Fiction during much of Russell's original run) and Julie Gardner, who's basically the reason any episodes of Doctor Who managed to get made between 2005 and 2010 :firega:

Plus, Ncuti is going to be fantastic. The perfect choice :nooo:

We're in for a treat :vegas:

RAMROD

This series seems to be very quiet after the female doctor was chosen, what happened with that? Did a lot of people stop watching out of emotions? I thought it was getting cancelled cos nobody seems to talk about it anymore on social media, nor do reactions watch on YT. Cos it used to always be on trending topics the day it got new episodes before.

Wonder what this new cast gonna do to the franchise now.
