i guess it was because i was younger and naïve but I honestly never thought that we could get to this point in this country. what the f*ck. I just feel sick to my stomach. my heart goes out to all in those states that have trigger laws based on roe getting overturned. this is such a disgrace to this country. what a time to be a f*cking woman. 

and as someone who was brought up in extremely traditional catholic household (and was told in 7th grade that every time a girl gets her period, it's a sin because she's not procreating) I'm so angry at how I blind I was to the reality of threats against female bodily autonomy in this country. For the longest time I was very centrist on the abortion debate, just because it had been so engrained in me to think that it was an unforgivable sin, even though I was 'ok' with other peoples' choices. Frustrated with religion, american conservatism, and the lack of proper reproductive education in this country. that's my vent

The right has been in its death throes for years now and limiting women's body autonomy is just one of several "hot button" culture war topics they've used to tap into the last reserves of undereducated whites. But now that they've actually managed to kill Roe v Wade I'm expecting millions of pissed off voters retaliating any way they can.

Hopefully that means Democrats will get a boost this year or at least in 2024.

The Supreme Court should be the ONLY reason you ultimately pick a presidential candidate. I've been saying this forever. But no.... Hillary wasn't perfect enough and we got stuck with that fing idiot. Also, I love RBG, but she really screwed us by not retiring when Obama could have picked her replacement. 

This is a travesty. And, yes, gay marriage is next. 100%.

One guy was like 'why do liberals care, they live in blue states that won't be affected by this anyway' as if caring about things that might not personally affect you is an unheard of concept 

Anyway, they're mad about it leaking and they're scared they're gonna lose the mid-terms over this now so that's a nice thought

I dont think some people truly understand the magnitude of what this opinion states. Alito almost literally states "you can't have guaranteed rights unless you have always had them" this is setting a precedent that will not only apply to gay marriage, but interracial marriage, women's voting rights, even just black rights. This combined with their decision on the Texas abortion law (which allows state legislatures to subvert, not just abortion, but almost any constitutional right at will) will all but neuter the constitution in its entirety.

Democrats must expand the supreme court or remove Kavanaugh, Gorsuch and Barrett for directly lying under oath at their confirmation hearings.

Disappointed that Roe v Wade may be overturned. There are still far too many rapes, untested rape kits, unconvicted rapists, malfunctioning contraceptives, and otherwise dissenting pregnancies to overturn this.  

I'm also very annoyed that the same men and women that call abortion murder, also support the death penalty and wars and a huge military/weapons that could kill half the world with nukes. 

I'm very dissapointed.

Democrats need 60 votes in the Senate. Something to try for in the mid-terms.

Additionally, Biden flat out promised to codify Roe into law as president. He has all three branches of government. He didn't do it.

The Democratic Party has been using abortion rights to raise money for elections for at least two decades and, once elected, refuses to use their power to ensure that exactly what is happening now could never happen. 

The left held their noses and voted for Clinton in disproportionately high numbers (including myself) and we're still getting blamed for her failures and the Democratic Party's failures. Enough is enough. Blame those who are actually responsible and leave us out of it.

Didn't Senator Nelson threaten to not agree to any sort of healthcare law and even leave the party if Obama signed this? He was horrible. Agree it should have been signed (as it was in the early 1990s) but I feel like it was a bit more complicated than that...and 19th had an interesting post recently about how as recently as 20 years ago 51% of Dems thought abortion should only be legal in some cases.

In my opinion, the reality is that change can happen rapidly despite what legislators have made us believe. look at FDR and how he changed an entire country in months. It is the matter of standing up for what's right and protesting what is wrong. we cannot settle anymore. we must stand up for this fight because so much more is coming if we do not.

We can also blame RBG for putting her pride and ego before her principles. She should have retired and let Obama appoint someone new. Instead she chose to stay there until her death. Shameful and shortsighted. 

Obama nominated Merrick Garland to fill Scalia's seat in 2016. But Senator McConnell refused to consider the nominee. There were over 230 days left in Obama's term and Garland should have been considered and voted on by the Senate. Imo,  they should have taken McConnell to the supreme court because he was refusing to do his constitutional duty because of partisan political purposes. Garland should have been on the Supreme court in 2016, and he certainly deserved to be considered by the senate in 2016. McConnell was refusing to consider most of Obama's nominees for federal judges. McConnell was quite actively obstructing President Obama's judge nominees. Imo, I think that RBG was aware of this and hoped the election would bring change, or at least more support for judge nominees from Clinton.

The FBI director that disclosed investigation of Clinton's emails should have also disclosed active investigation of Trump's Russia contacts. then there was Trump's famous "Russia if you are listening" request that Russia locate and make public Clinton's government work emails. I considered that to be traitorous to my country, yet he won the electoral votes anyway. Clinton was ahead in the polls and won the popular vote, so it's still a dissapointing election result, to say the least.
