I wonder if this is the final backslide before a massive push back in favor of human rights and progressive ideals.

The right has been in its death throes for years now and limiting women's body autonomy is just one of several "hot button" culture war topics they've used to tap into the last reserves of undereducated whites. But now that they've actually managed to kill Roe v Wade I'm expecting millions of pissed off voters retaliating any way they can.

Hopefully that means Democrats will get a boost this year or at least in 2024.

Right now? Pressure the judges to change their mind. This is just a draft decision and hasn't been made official  yet. If all hell breaks loose now, then maybe they'll change their minds.

If not, and Roe is overturned, then...I'm not sure really. Sad how 5 people can take millions' body autonomy away. Especially when four of those five people were appointed to the Supreme Court by presidents who lost the popular vote.

This can definitely be used to galvanize independent and Democratic voters though. Overturning Roe doesn't make abortion illegal but it does allow states to make it illegal. If there's a real push in swing states and Democrats are elected, they can protect abortion rights on a state level until Roe is reinstated (and it will be some day, no doubt). But for the women who live in solidly red states, the outlook is kinda bleak.

they can pass a law through congress to make it a federal law (meaning a law all states have to abide by). but not sure what kinds of complications that would entail  for example, idk if a state can sue the federal government over it, then having the case come up to the supreme court again and then they strike that down making the federal government from that point on powerless on the issue (maybe? ).

The draft actually states that it'll ultimately reside with state legislatures. so red states will ban it, blue ones will not. there is a silver lining albeit, not the ideal.
