Of course, everything's possible, it never hurts to get into the spotlight when you have something to sell. But the main reports coming from the MET are: "Here's X, she's wearing Y on the carpet". The last time Gaga came, I seem to remember that the media were talking about her outfits and the show she put on on the stairs. They might have talked about her projects of the time for context, but the outfit was the focus. Same with Rihanna with the massive yellow train - the outfit is what made people talk.
