If every single one of us made it our business to put our business out there, desperately, like that family does then I'm sure each story would eclipse the other in terms of insanity. Factor in bad surgery and controversy and you pretty much end up with, well, them. They're not that special - they're just weed-like (refuse to disappear) marketing geniuses that capitalized off of privilege and idiots. The carpet theme is literally referencing the Gilded Age and those rich families - if there's one year to invite all of the Kardashians, it's this one. Like you said, we can have this sort of rich people drama from anyone, and yet they're the ones that focus the attention. As with any hit series, it's the right show with the right cast at the right time. They've been at it for 16 years, you can't deny there's definitely something that keeps people watching.
