Can we curb inflation, fix our southern border, focus on preventing WWIII in Europe, fix skyrocketing food prices, and find alternative oil sources and place temporary mandates in oil companies to curb high gas prices?

Cancelling student debt is a short term positive, long term BIG negative. I’m here for it if it’s done right, but now is certainly not the time. Not the way to fix the issues in America at this moment.

What they should start doing NOW is merit-based college tuitions. If you have good grades and attendance, your tuition goes down/ becomes free by the time you graduate. Too many people consciously pick more expensive options for the wrong factors for us to simply just forgive it all. Community colleges, in-state universities, scholarships, grants, etc. exist, but a lot of people still choose something more expensive for night life, clout, prestige, etc. AND too many people are forced into college by their parents, simply don’t belong, cause constant disturbances, have bad attendance, etc. why forgive that?

CAN YOU HUSH I DONT WANT TO PAY MY STUDENT LOANS BACK :patrizia:

Regarding the argument of why do students deserve forgiveness or not

can we acknowledge thst most people who take out student loans are basically children? 18-21 ish year olds with little to no understanding of economics… who’s brains are still developing to think of the big picture rather than the instant gratification in the here and now??? A whole generation of kids were coerced  into the high school to college pipeline some of their own volition yes, but many with no concept thst there are alternative paths in life, they just see everybody around them telling them this is what you do after high school etc. 18 year olds can’t even drink a beer but they can take out tens of thousands in student loans lol

idk man I think it’s super unjust. I think college needs to be free in general and funded by taxpayers. Idgaf, I’ll pay taxes so that this country can be educated and stop falling behind. Forgive student loans, create a plan for government funded higher education, that’s my dream.

Cancel it, and make tuition free.

I hope something is done about the cost of tuitions as well which is the root cause of this high student debt issue in the first place

I continue to hold the opinion that simply cancelling debt at random will only help the lucky ones that are targeted now in the short term. It won't fix the actual root problem and in a few years the problem will just be back and potentially with a vengeance (if some people anticipate the government will forgive debt a second time and make less effort to minimize it) if this debt forgiveness doesn't come with additional reforms in the system as well

It may be better than doing nothing at all and I'm not saying I'm against it per say but on its own is just an expensive  superficial bandaid. It would be a much more effective and complete action if it was done as a part of a bigger reform package
