Morphine Prince 109,650
I don’t think people realize that for Millenials especially this would be life changing. Many would immediately be lifted into a higher socioeconomic status. People would buy homes, have children. A new boom that would revitalize this country. djBuffoon 12,235
Cancel student debt, legalize marijuana. He can autonomously sign both of those into law today, and it would give Democrats a massive leg-up in the midterms.

I have been saving pretty much everything I've earned since covid so that when payments resume I can just send it off. But haven't paid yet just in case they somehow get cancelled. It's in his best financial interest to not push this relief through.

Naa, he's probably playing politics. The pause will end in August and maybe he'll say he can forgive x amount, anymore forgiveness will probably require congressional approval. This is probably a ploy to win in the midterms.
Leoj305 3,774
Didn’t he say that pre presidency and then say he couldn’t do it only to now say he’s doing it right when the democrats need to win the mid terms ? Why are democrats so …… it’s interesting because when republicans say they are going to do something they actually do it. Dems are like moderate republicans sometimes. bionic 50,111
He could do anything. Whether its legal or not is a different question. That's what he's looking into and everybody expects the answer would be "maybe, depending on how sympathetic the courts are"
TEANUS 16,140
Can we curb inflation, fix our southern border, focus on preventing WWIII in Europe, fix skyrocketing food prices, and find alternative oil sources and place temporary mandates in oil companies to curb high gas prices? Cancelling student debt is a short term positive, long term BIG negative. I’m here for it if it’s done right, but now is certainly not the time. Not the way to fix the issues in America at this moment. What they should start doing NOW is merit-based college tuitions. If you have good grades and attendance, your tuition goes down/ becomes free by the time you graduate. Too many people consciously pick more expensive options for the wrong factors for us to simply just forgive it all. Community colleges, in-state universities, scholarships, grants, etc. exist, but a lot of people still choose something more expensive for night life, clout, prestige, etc. AND too many people are forced into college by their parents, simply don’t belong, cause constant disturbances, have bad attendance, etc. why forgive that? Guest
Isn't it the case that the most he can even personally do is have an executive order for the pausing of the payments? Surely congress will need to be involved if he were to actually pursue canceling student loan debt. But also, wouldn't canceling / forgiving it hurt the economy tremendously? Rather than something like the removal of interest.

Yeah starting up those payments 3 months before the midterms is a very bad move ☠️☠️
