Well Florida seems to be made of old rich white people while these french overseas islands are poorer than metropolitan France and very black or multiracial. They voted Lepen wishing she would help fixing it. Macron didn't do sh*t so she gained points like crazy there. The way she got her votes from the youth, countryside and islanders is really surprising.

We're all putting money into the EU so things like this should be fairer and more in line with eachother. This makes absolutely no sense. Why should we adapt to foreign systems ? And why should it be for the worst one ? Pension system depends on demographic, work force, employment and national policies. Not to mention that the pension systems totally vary from one country to another. The NL has one of the biggest funded pension system which is the complete opposite of the French system: you value individualism, we value solidarity. Pushing the retirement age is just a neoliberal symbol to self-finance a system when the money can be found elsewhere in the State budget. And about the second part of your message, not only EU has nothing to do with it but from what I remember France is contributing 4+ times more than the NL to the European budget. What would also be fairer would be if the NL stopped being one of the worst tax haven globally.

It would cost hundreds of millions of euros for absolutely nothing. He wants university to stop being free He talked about refusing to give unemployment money to people who refuse 2 jobs in a row, no matter what the job and the person seeking a job's qualifications (You could have a master and be a doctor, get 2 jobs offers as a waiter, refuse them, and lose your unemployment money) Not sure of everything I said but that what I heard lately Some of these things are quite reasonable: Why couldn't teenagers have possibility to have part-time job earlier? Life expectancy is increasing (In EU it is above 80years) and there are slowly more seniors than workers, it is logical and very responsible to push the age of retirement to prevent collapse of social system (it is happening in whole Europe) Why should be someone be paid just because he thinks he is too educated to work as a waiter? Was his education worth it if he can't find a job with doctorate? I'm not having fun tonight.

You just didn't like that Trump was upfront about how bad the US and its gov are and wanted a different face to put to rest the nightmare that is America The same things are happening but it's not the president and controlling party perpetrating it. That's the difference Only one party is... - writing bills that ban talking about sexuality and gender in school - banning text books, even math books, 'cause they deemed them racist towards white people - trying to kill any discussion about racism today 'cause it might make white students uncomfortable - writing bills that require medical professionals to reverse trans patients' transitions - banning women from getting birth control coverage from employer insurance - effectively banning abortions as they can only be performed before most women even know they're pregnant - gerrymandering entire states to render as much of the poc vote as useless as possible - denying the science behind disease prevention and treatment - organizing full on insurrection attempts on the US government And so much more Whimsical bitch

To differentiate the Republicans from Democrats you have to mention the most extremist kind of policies the GOP enacts when the reality is they are in alignment on most mainstream policies, many of them related to economic issues, healthcare, labor, climate, etc. there isn’t enough of a discernible difference which is exactly why nearly 40% of people, most of them disproportionately younger and from disenfranchised minority communities do not vote. Ppl will literally attribute several of these policies to being uniquely trumpian, when under Biden, more people have been deported, more kids are in cages, more public land has been leased to oil and gas companies for drilling and fracking permits, the military and police budgets have increased, minimum wage has remained the same, more Medicare services have been privatized or contracted to private health insurance companies, etc. The reality is that most ppl don’t see some of those issues you mentioned as affecting their lives in a major way (relative to more existential economic issues) except the extremely reactionary wings of both parties. If it were the case then you would see an increase in political participation from the public at large. Current US polling shows thats not the case. And this is exactly what you saw in the French election, several ppl choosing a party to block the other party simply because they weren’t as bad and leading to even more dissatisfaction. A lot of y’all are correct in noticing the rise of the far right but maybe analyze why.
