So nervous for you guys. Everyday is a literal nightmare when you have a leader like Trump. Constantly on edge, forever worrying about what basic human right will be stripped of you that day. All while watching half the population cheer on regression and hate, while religion is weaponized and interwoven into your democracy to meet agendas. IT'S SICK.

the same things are happening under Biden and the Dems but worse and a lot of yall exceptionalized Trump and the GOP to be uniquely responsible for a lot of these issues when this is literally how the US operates. You just didn't like that Trump was upfront about how bad the US and its gov are and wanted a different face to put to rest the nightmare that is America

I'm not a supporter of Le Pen. All I'm saying is the far left and the far right of Europe are very similar. They are both Putin apologists.

lol i just roll my eyes when people make such asinine claims as "horseshoe theory." Putin is literally the far right and an anticommunist... And because wanting a worker controlled economy and an end to exploitation by corporations and the oligarchs who control them is the same as burning qurans in the street and beating Romani people. :smh:

lol critique of NATO and its historical role in warmongering as well as critique of US intervention in Ukraine and Eastern Europe since the end of the USSR is not Putin apologism. You're falsely equating the statements made by Melenchon with the other two and also casually ignoring that the two statements made by Melenchon were before Russia started the invasion. Putin is a far right reactionary figure whose politics are not leftist by any means, but as many French leftist politicians and their supporters are correctly pointing out, that doesn't discount the fact that the US and its lackeys in Europe have also played a hand in this war. A lot of you will simplify conflicts into Putin/Russia bad, Ukraine/zelensky/Nato good, when the geopolitical reality is more complex.

Also curious that what France did just last summer in Mali with the brutal suppression of protests there by the French army gets no acknowledgement. I forgot, based on bringing this up on a past GGD thread, that pointing out that NATO and the Western nations really have no standing to critique Putin without seeming like the utter hypocrites they are means that you are a Putin apologist.

But is the Lepen bit here really pro-putin? She says it's a new world ( back then ) cause that's now a world with Trump and Putin which to me is empty politician talk which could mean anything.

Can someone briefly explain why is Macron bad president? He is quite popular in my country and I haven't heard any scandal about him.

Talks a lot about ecology yet it's during his term that France was condemned for ecological inaction and rn France is not respecting the Paris climate deal, ironically.

Wanted to add tax on gas when some folks can't fill their tank since more than half of the high price you pay at the gas station here is already due to state taxes lol.

Let the public retirement houses being awful places for the seniors where mistreatments and neglects are frequent.

Obtained pretty bad results when it comes to security/ crimes.

Closed hospital beds even during the pandemic while not adding funds for the justice system which makes it endless for victims to get justice served. When it is served.

Plenty of his ministers had to resign over scandals concerning shady use of public money and the current general secretary of the presidency is accused of being in the middle of a massive conflict of interest... He himself apparently undervalued his house in his declaration to the french IRS to not pay the tax rate he was supposed to pay... Also when he had to publish his net worth/ possession for this campaign everybody laughed at the wealth he claimed to have seing the fancy private jobs he used to do.

I stop there but it's a loooooonng list... Foreign medias often kiss his ass so I'm not surprised you heard nothing bad about him. Outside of France he's seen as the young president defeating Lepen so his image remains positive.

Some of the reasons I've read over the past weeks:

He wants to put 45 hours work week for young people (less than 25 yo) (it's currently 35h/week for everyone)
He wants kids to work from 12 (twelve) years old to learn jobs
He want to push the age of retirement to 65 years old (it's currently 62)
He wants to reform "Pole Emploi" which is an organism that helps french people to find jobs. It would cost hundreds of millions of euros for absolutely nothing.
He wants university to stop being free
He talked about refusing to give unemployment money to people who refuse 2 jobs in a row, no matter what the job and the person seeking a job's qualifications (You could have a master and be a doctor, get 2 jobs offers as a waiter, refuse them, and lose your unemployment money)

Not sure of everything I said but that what I heard lately

I agree with this! It's 65 in a lot of European countries and 67 in my country (The Netherlands). We're all putting money into the EU so things like this should be fairer and more in line with eachother.

But France is not as Netherlands, for starting we are way more than yall, then if you raise the age to 65 or even 67 without creating jobs, the youngest will be the ones suffering from unemployment (like its already the case), you can see it even clearer in Italy and Spain for example

+ how it will be fair for people who started working at 15yo (which was common in the past generations here) or around, they will have to continue working despite their conditions. This is some of the arguments against this revision.
Its more complicated than just being part of UE, yes we are a group but we are also individual countries with our own intern issues.

and we are dealing with a president that totally disregard youngest people needs by telling them to “cross the road to find a job” as if most of us were just lazy

If i have to guess that would be the french riviera (south east) mixed with old rich people and poor districts, infected by dangerous animals as cigales  :ladyhaha:
