Causing an animal to suffer (directly or indirectly) for your own pleasure is sad. Cultural norms make one form of suffering/pleasure more acceptable than others, but it's all just weird.

Whether you're raping a lizard to derive sexual pleasure, or supporting the rape of a cow in order to derive the pleasure of a milkshake and pizza, it's all pretty wack.

This is not the same. While I realize there are some practices around farming cows/milk that are controversial, milking a cow does not hurt them. Just like a human, if they are producing milk it can be quite painful to not be milked. Raping an animal is not the same.

A dairy cow has an entire human arm forcibly inserted into their reproductive organ during the nonconsensual artificial insemination process. When they give birth their calf is immediately taken from them, causing further distress.

They repeat the process of annual forced pregnancies, having their calves taken from them, and being milked, until they are slaughtered.

In order to keep up with public demand, we've selectively bred cows so that they produce an excessive amount of milk. So you are right, it's painful if the unnatural amount of milk stored in their udders is not drained. For profit and pleasure we made it necessary for cows to be milked constantly.

The idea that factory farmed cows are milked in order to spare them pain is a deliberately constructed fantasy, it allows people to continue eating their pizza with peace of mind. It's an understandable myth to embrace, but it also is blind the true cycle of abuse inflicted on dairy cows.

I do understand why people are shocked by this lizard story, but people contribute to the exploitation of animals every day for their own personal pleasure. Whether it's to satiate gluttony or lust it's still painful exploitation of an animal.

Oriane

I've always been told that these were very dangerous animals and you could die quickly if they bit you. Why would you even dare approach it, let alone hurt it? I wish it has bitten them.

Thanks for reminding me of this. My desire to eat plant based had been waning the past few months. I really should try again. The food industry is so effed up.

Not sure I'd call this a cultural norm even in India

Even if it's much more prevalent in a nation it doesn't mean it's a norm

Oh god no. That's for sure not what I meant. Maybe it was poorly worded, but to be clear, I don't think lizard ****ing is a cultural norm in India. :lmao:

I meant the exploitation of animals by way of consuming animal products is an acceptable cultural norm, as opposed to the exploitation of animals for sex which is deeply taboo. That is true in both Western and Eastern culture.

Ah I see, thanks for clarifying. I agree
