FfFfFfFF 58,083 Posted April 16, 2022 Share Posted April 16, 2022 A fossil of a new species of turtle - Dortoka vremiri - has been discovered in the Hateg UNESCO Global Geopark, according to Bucharest University (UB). "Through this discovery, the Dinosaur Valley in the Hateg UNESCO Global Geopark provides new information about the diversity of life 70 million years ago on the former Hateg Island. Here, paleontologists have discovered this species of turtle, contemporary with dwarf dinosaurs. The newly discovered species is part of a larger family of turtles more specific to the southern hemisphere. The closest fossils of its relatives date back about 57 million years ago and have been identified in northwestern Romania.
