Listening to SHICD again. Definitely one of my favorite Gaga songs ever.

I love how complex it is, even its musicality enhances its meaning. I've always seen it as a really sad song about trying to hold it together, elements of vanity and alcoholism/d--g use thrown in. The way the song glosses itself over with a layer of poppy synths, as if attempting to hide its dark tone, parallel exactly Gaga's struggle in the song itself. I also love all the double meanings: "I am as vain (vein) as I allow," "I touch myself (masturbation/d--g use/applying makeup)," "Up in the clouds we'll be higher than ever (high from d--g use/dead in heaven)," etc. I don't think she's ever written another song so masterfully, which is why it's weird that she didn't mention SHICD much. I feel like it might be intensely personal to her, so maybe that's why.

This so hard, makes me love the song more :legend:

Yeah, SHICD is her best written song, IMO.

I kinda wish the song had a "real" bridge though, with new lyrics and everything P:

I'm still glad she fought for Alejandro. It's one of my all-time favorite Gaga songs and DESERVED to be a single. Dance In The Dark is magnificent too, so I'm torn...but in the end, I'm glad Alejandro was chosen. I just think Dance In The Dark could've been a fourth single...the era didn't feel "done" to me and she had plenty of time before born this way to release it.

:) I 100% agree with you.. but DITD was a single? It just flopped though.. :fail:

SHICD & Paper Gangsta were both repetitive yet it still sounded so flawless. But I agree, I wish it had a bridge, & not repeated the chorus 100 times lol I also wish it was a single, tbh. But something tells me it would've flopped. :(

SHICD is my favourite on the album. What I liked about TFM was the hidden meaning. All of the songs (except for telephone) had a really dark message behind them, but you couldn't tell unless you pulled apart the lyrics and watched a couple of gaga interviews. Whereas with BTW most of the songs are literal. It doesn't take long to figure out what the message in the song is. Having said that, I still think BTW is a better piece of work.

The Fame Monster is Gaga's masterpiece to date.

The songs are awesome, and the lyrics are so cleverly written. There are TONS of cross references to her other songs.

I can think of some of them to exemplify this.

The theme explored in Monster ('he ate my heart and then he ate my brain') is repeated in other two album songs: Telephone ('I left my head and my heart on the dance floor') and So Happy I Could Die ('...open up your heart and your mind to me').

There's a clear connection between Alejandro and Telephone ('don't call my name, don't call my name' and 'stop calling, stop calling').

At first I thought this album was just more of the same. It's defnately not. It has a dark concept and deal with lots of recurring themes in the pop world in a completely different way.

Edit: typo.

My favorites are:

Speechless

Dance In The Dark

Telephone

Teeth

So Happy I Could Die

& If I could go back in time, I'd make SHICD a single. either that, or make DITD more successful than it was. Because, yeah, some of the lyrics are strange in SHICD, but look at Eminem's lyrics, and most of his stuff got successful like THAT back in the day. Just saying. + Judas was a single.. :P

I have to say SHICD is one of my least favorite songs from her ever. I never really loved it and to this day I still don't love it.

TFM is an awesome album, it's so strong.

For me it is

1. Bad Romance

2. Dance In The Dark

3. Speechless

4. Monster

5. Teeth

6. Alejandro

7. Telephone

8. So Happy I Could Die

I thought that at first about Telephone, but I guess somehow it's part of the concept. The 'he ate my heart and then he ate my brain' theme is repeated in this song subtly. In the chorus: 'I left my head and my heart on the dance floor'. And she repeats 'stop calling, stop calling...'. This is a referrence to Alejandro.

We can see two strong forces acting on Gaga on TFM. One of them is a force that pulls her away from fame (like we can see in Alejandro and in Telephone). And the other is, I guess, the fame itself, like in Monster.

Telephone is a seemingly empty song, but I always thought Gaga was too intelligent for that. We can see some subtleties of the whole concept inserted throughout the song.

Edit: I'm newb with quotes :(

The Fame Monster

I love The Fame Monster! Like you said, it's totally going to be a classic in the future. Dance In the Dark is my favorite song from the album. But I have to say that I love Born This Way a little bit more than The Fame Monster. If there were more songs in The Fame Monster, it would be otherwise.

The bass synth in Alejandro, used in the intro and in the interspace between chorus 1 and verse 2, is magnificent. I kind of wished that was the main bass throughout the song.

But then again, I think the lighter bass worked out well. Good contrast between the two.

3 points in and ready for more
