-The dive bar version of Sinner's Prayer is WAY BETTER, the darkness... That version has a soul unlike the album version, a big mistake.

-A-YO is not a good song

-The whole album does not feel complete, it's more like a leaked unreleased demo album

-Dancin' in Circles could've been produced way better

-Angel Down is the best song on the album

-Her voice is the worst on this album

-I can't stand hearing Come To Mama, her vocals and the lyrics are cringey

-Just Another Day is her worst song

-Hey Girl is amazing

-Perfect Illusion is one of my favorite songs

-This album is her worst yet, she should have released Joanne as a side album

Mine: Joanne has beautiful moments (DH, MR, Joanne Piano Version & AD are huge standouts) but I don't think it materialized the way Gaga intended. In Gaga 5 foot 2, you can see a lot of stress in her face during the final sessions (when she’s telling Mark to make John Wayne shinier, etc). I also think her concept for the album changed/evolved during the making of the album, which made it feel disjointed at times.

Also, from Gaga’s Zane Lowe Chromatica interview (talking about Joanne):

  Hide contents

“I made an album for my father.  I made an album to try to heal my family's trauma and it was beautiful, but at the same time, it was a futile effort, since you can't fix something like that and I had to learn. But it was a big disappointment for me to understand that no matter how much success I have, how many stadiums I pitch, how big I become, I cannot fix my father”

I think Joanne was an experience, a snapshot in time of how Gaga was processing a huge amount of pain and trauma, rather than a concept or fully fleshed out project. And for that reason I view it much differently than any of her other works, but I appreciate it immensely.

Agreed. I think the inclusion of Bloodpop brought it down. He’s not bad or anything, but he doesn’t make a ton of sense production wise given his strengths as a producer. He watered down what I think Gaga was looking to dig into musically which was exactly why he was brought on. Interscope wanted a pop album to sell and they got that but the music was worse off for it imo

Would have been more successful with no album and she instead released 2-3 individual singles of the best songs then worked on a more fully formed album after a year or so. A return with ASIB is fine imo since that’s basically what happened anyway.

PI was the best choice for lead

Grigio Girls is the worst song

Just Another Day is top 5 on the deluxe version

No other song had that much single potential, The Cure would’ve served that purpose and gotten top 10 IMO had it gotten a full push and a music video

Great album (is that unpopular ?)

The title track is a weakness.

Come To Mama sounds like a John Lennon song. I love it.

The album is not cohesive, but it doesn't matter.

numb the flame

Joanne is a good album, however, it's definitely not one I often reach for often at all tbh. Since buying my turntable in January, I've only played Joanne once and that was in March. I only listened to Joanne because I wanted to listen to every record that I own on my new system.

Also, ASIB >>> Joanne. ASIB just did YeehawGa better than Joanne for me and thus I've played ASIB more on my turntable recently even if it has been just a handful of times.

Meat

People that hate on Come to Mama and Grigio Girls have no heart. They are some of her most emotional songs and I can’t listen to them without crying.
