MANiCURE 6

I hate that people make fun of her or say she was bad, singing off key etc etc.

They clearly know nothing about Jazz and how it's absolutely not about sounding good but about telling / living a story through music

Yeah, I agree. Jazz is an interesting in the sense that being "technically good" isn't necessarily the main motivator of the genre. Don't get me wrong. You obviously have to be technically skilled to sing jazz because it's not an easy genre of music to sing, but there are many examples of jazz singers who may not """sound good/sound correct""" because it's first and foremost about the emotion/passion behind the voice as opposed to whether or not you can hit the right note.

It's also why jazz isn't necessarily a genre for everyone. It's a more improv-based genre with a lot of ups and downs, as opposed to something pop music, which is compartively much more structured and values "technical" singing more than the emotion/passion behind the voice.

[Also, I know what I'm saying is a very general statement. I'm not saying that there's absolutely no "emotion/passion" behind pop music or that you don't have to be a "good singer" to sing jazz, but there's clearly two different approaches between the two genres that I think people don't necessarily take into account when they're just like "Ew, Gaga sounds weird here. I hate it."]
