Sunday’s in-person Grammy Awards on CBS saw just a 1.4% increase in audience size from last year’s partly virtual ceremony, which was a record-low for music’s biggest night.

Hosted by Trevor Noah from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, the two-month-delayed 64th Annual Grammy Awards drew 8.93 million total viewers across multiple platforms, according to time-zone adjusted fast national data from Nielsen.

Last year’s Grammy Awards, which were mostly virtual due to the pandemic, managed a record low 8.8 million viewers in the comparable preliminary time-zone adjusted data, airing Sunday, March 14.  It was a record low for the awards show and down 50% from the 18.8 million that tuned in the year prior for the January 2020 telecast.

A week before the Grammys, the 2022 Oscars drew 16.6 million viewers, up 58% from last year’s record-low Academy Awards audience of 10.5 million.

At least it increased :billie: The Oscars had good ratings only because of the slap, they were flopping hard otherwise.

Last year was so depressing. I'm surprised it's not higher this year now that they had audience and the world is in a much better place.

Actually Oscars ratings peaked an hour before the slap.

I think and it's my view and I warn u, u might find it annoying as hell, but this is how I see it, I think the glamour is not there and in small ways now it's being back, but think of the 80s (oh no not this again), but seriously. Think of the 80s grammys, and then think of it now. The class, the timelessness, the beauty, the respect for art. Who wouldn't wanna watch it? Now do I wanna watch mediocre rappers, mediocre pop singers, monotone songs, basic pop sings à la Shawn Mendes, or lazy Bieber with XXXL pants and snobby sunglasses on? Well..... meh not really mate. On top of it, celebrities are becoming less and less interesting, not only in their works, but it's a different mentality now, we in this generation value other things, we understand that these award shows are celebrations of wealth, excess, things we don't relate and don't necessarily need. But the 80s was more joyful in terms of music, more interesting, more epic, so I think we wouldve watched it now if there was Diana Ross and Michael Jackson showing up with sparkly bright outfits singing Wanna be startin somethin'

I can't wait for The Grammys to be absolutely obsolete. The comments the President made in 2018 telling women to "step up" STILL rub me the wrong way and he should have been made to resign. Even then like mentioned by other contributors on this thread, the appeal and luster of award ceremonies in general has significantly faded in recent years. Be it a lack of connection with the audience in regards to nominees and award recipients, performers or hosts even, tuning into and/or missing The Grammys is no big deal come the next day like it felt previously.

It was boring. Not enough established artists are attending, and I suspect it's either ego or that they're no longer interested. Besides Gaga (a literal entertainment legend in the making) who else was there that is considered an icon from her generation and before? The fact that she was the only one trending amidst a sea of Gen Z fan-faves tells you all you need to know.

It's just not that fun to watch tbh. I was at my friends place and we watched it for 15 minutes and then watched Shrek because it was too boring.

None of the performances besides the lil nas x and maybe billie were even interesting. Like the kpop performances are much better than whatever **** they show on American television. At least a few years back when I liked watching the Grammys, they had some good performers who did choreo and put their all in and it actually looked interesting unlike performances these days.
