That’s jazz. Jazz artists never sing the same song in same way twice. It wasn’t supposed to be performed like in studio, nor she was oversinging. Inflections and improvizations are the base of jazz.

She’s been doing it even on her pop songs. Thst was not an attack or whatever needs an “protection”. I just stated my opinions on the performance.

Gaga did just fine. She was definitely emotional and on the verge on tears throughout “Do I Love You.” She looked stunning.

I just wonder, because idk much about technics and stuff... was it a stylistic choice?

Gaga's no Ella Fitzgerald, but she sounds MORE like Ella now, than in 2014. It's a conscious choice. Listen. (Ella is her favorite singer.)

Yeah I mean, she's an icon and will forever be remembered. But her vocal peak was 2014/2015 when she did all those tributes and such.

I respectfully disagree.

Vocals can peak at 25 or 45. If YOU believe Gaga's vocal peak was 2014, when she was 28, that's certainly possible.

If that's what YOU believe, then there's no point in dragging her every single time she performs, is there? It's 2022.

She CAN'T turn back time, you know?

What is she supposed to do? Cancel the tour and RETIRE tomorrow? Should she have retired in 2014? 🤔

Should Tony have retired DECADES ago??

Why stan a 36-year-old singer if you're obsessed with youth? The choice is yours.

10/10. Gaga was emotional but not overwrought, earnest and unassuming, not taking herself too seriously.

It's sad that Tony wasn't there, but she seemed happy to be able to do this for him. A sweet tribute.

Here is one review from an article I saw on Twitter and also based of tweets outside of ridiculous stan Twitter, a lot of people felt this way too. It’s one thing to be energetic and deliver emotion, but when that takes over the performance instead of focusing on delivering great vocals it’s not great. If she would calm the f*ck down and do the chill style jazz that she used to before the full body spasms it would have been better but her voice jumped around as much as her body did last night. Even on the record she does inflections and other techniques that just aren’t needed in the songs.

“Lady Gaga came out to the big-band strains of “Love For Sale,” and promptly did one of the more jarring performances of the evening. She kept jumping styles of singing—even within the same song—making for a strangely off-putting overall effect. It’s as though she wanted to hit every tone and mannerism she’s ever delivered in jazz, and it was a little much. Okay, a lot much. (Admittedly, the heartfelt tribute to her partner in jazz, Tony Bennett, was nice.)”

Personally, I like the vocals/tone she had in the performance. The nasalness, at times, reminded me a lot of Amy Winehouse. I think with C2C, she had a more "classical" sounding voice, but with LFS, I think she's trying to pizazz it up a bit by changing her tone/vocal inflections.

I can see why it's not everyone's cup of tea, but honestly, it just shows that she's an incredibly versatile singer.

I'll say though, I think for both Love For Sale and Do I Love You, both of them ended stronger than they began.

I agree. C2C was a collab with a jazz icon. A few years later she decided to become a professional jazz singer.

Gaga IS a professional jazz singer with her own jazz show. The nasalness reminded me of Ella Fitzgerald, her favorite singer.

'Love for Sale' is from a stage MUSICAL, written from the point of view of a prostitute selling... her services. Ella's version is much slower.

I bet Gaga loves it - not just because she got to ACT and sing, but 'Love for Sale' was labelled "in bad taste" back in 1930. 😉

If some of her fans felt a little uncomfortable even though they never listened to the lyrics, she's done a fine job!

I expected it to be a disaster with your comments...

Gaga's been making weird vocal choices for a couple years, but this performance was absolutely flawless

Technique wise was actually good imo as a singer.

She wasn’t pitchy, and her voice is as bright as it has been. Her diction seemed deliberate and her tone was consistent, all kind of indicates a stylistic approach?

Respectfully I have to say Her technique was definitely not wonky, and WAS the way it was because of the jazz style

not my fave but still loved

As a classically trained singer, I respectfully disagree. I think it was fine, but it definitely lacked some of the technical finesse we know she's capable. Her vibrato wavered off pitch several times during L4S, the diction and tension in her throat and mouth harshed the sound of her vibrato and the over all tone quality and I also just prefer a slightly cleaner style. Respectfully, listen to How High the Moon by Sarah Vaughan and tell me the jazz style and energy necessitates harshness of tone. The performance could've been tighter, as evidenced by the studio version of L4S and the MTV Unplugged. She still sounded good, but I just wish she would've ironed out some of the unnecessary edges.

improvisations that are pitchy/not executed properly are still imperfections. we cant just pretend like the laws of music/singing dont apply to gaga just cuz we stan her.

Exactly. And I say this as someone who thinks she's generally impeccable, so I am being nitpicky.

I hope she doesn't visit this cult site. Just enjoy her performance and stop criticizing everything she does. :fail: Some of ya'll are just plain rude.

Don’t play with me, it just hurts me.
