USA Approves Gender Neutral Passport, Will Be Available From April 11th

U.S. citizens will be able to select the gender neutral "X" as a marker on their passport books starting April 11, the State Department said Wednesday.

It made the announcement on the eve of Transgender Day of Visibility, an annual day on March 31 that celebrates transgender people.

The U.S. special diplomatic envoy for LGBTQ rights, Jessica Stern, said adding an X gender marker to U.S. passports is "a momentous step."

"The addition of a third gender marker propels the U.S. forward toward ensuring that our administrative systems account for the diversity of gender identity, gender expression and sex characteristics among U.S. citizens," she said at a news conference Wednesday. "The issuance of X gender markers on U.S. passports does not create new definitions nor rights. This policy change recognizes the true identity of the passport holder." 

The State Department announced in June that it would move toward adding a third gender marker but didn’t say when. Then, in October, it issued its first gender-neutral “X” passport.

I wonder if this will result in being denied entry to countries that do not recognize gender identities beyond male and female.

They might. 
 

People with these passports may need to first check with the embassies of the destinations they plan to visit on their eligibility. Otherwise, they could face refused entry, fines, degrading treatment such as questioning and/or bodily searches, detention or prosecution.

This is actually pretty cool, I wonder how it would work when trying to enter other countries that might not recognize these passports though.

I think they will just guess based on your body and face what sex you are. Because on the passport it asks for sex not the gender

Wait so what's the point of making your passport sex neutral? The title said gender which is different from your biological sex.

There no more space on passport for that extra line, they uses what they can.  All countries who recognizes neutral gender passports also does the same. Simple as that. Doesn't meant to be co confused with one to another.

Also, more info, there are only 16  countries that allows gender neutral passports for their citizens so far:

Argentina, Austria, Australia, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Malta, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, India, Nepal, and USA.

Well a quick question, why are they calling this a gender neutral passport when it's sex neutral? Those two are totally different things.
