You just need to understand that the hardware is not strong like a PlayStation or an XBox, so you may see some downgrade in the graphics, but it's still has some of the best and most beautiful games ever like Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, Metroid Dread. Now the problem is not buying the console really, but investing in games, the price is 60 dollars/euros per game for Nintendo exclusives and most of the 3rd party like Capcom, Bandai Namco, Ubisoft are between the 40-60 dollars/euros. You better check in your country the prices and what is more convenient, buying physically in store or buying digitally from the American eShop. Nintendo Exclusives are rarely goes on sale, only during special sales like Xmas sale, Summer Sale, Mario Day sale etc. But there are many games that can occupy you for many hours and even months like Animal Crossing, Pokemon Games, the online games like Smash, Splatoon 2 and others.
