This thread is not me trying to share my hidden opinions. It’s just that I ask myself that question a lot. If Madonna from 1998 met the Madonna from 2022, do you think she’d like her?

As my hairdresser said to me recently, If the “ray of light” era Madonna could see what she’s become today, she would shut that **** down faster than you can say “reductive”

No.

I’d think she’d be confused by herself, honestly. Maybe a little amused.

Then the modern Madonna would attack the younger one because there can only be one.

I sometimes wish I could go back into time to show a younger Madonna, today’s Madonna’s Instagram posts just so she has an existential crisis and prevents it from happening in the future.

I think so. Madonna has always been against ageism and seeing herself do "young people things" shouldn't be a problem to her. She's still reinventing herself and exploring new things in her music, staying active and doing projects, having fun, using her voice for important matters...
Now would she like the sell-out Madonna from Hard Candy and MDNA? I don't think so

Its sad to see how groundbreaking and advocate she was back then and how she portrays herself today..

Im grateful for all her earlier work, she paved the way for Gaga/Beyonce etc.

I don't see why not. The Madonna of today is not that different. Her outlook and desire to be creative and surround herself with equally creative young people has rarely wavered throughout the years, that's why she's still around over 20 years after Ray of Light. I think Madonna of 2000-2007 is a more interesting comparison, since that's when she was married to Guy Ritchie. She was very reserved then compared to how she was in the 90s.

I think Ray of Light Madonna would be profoundly embarrassed by the music she has been making since Hard Candy :reductive:

She'd probably be frustrated by her inability to embrace the up-and-coming talent like Gaga too :madge:

Well the whole idea behind Ray of Light was how she found the meaning of her life with motherhood and how it became her religion. If you see her instagram, you can see that her kids are at the number one spot of her life and how happy she is with her family. So i think she Madonna from 1998 would love Madonna of 2022.

Tbh I don't think she's changed that much at all.

The one issue would maybe be the excessive ridiculous facetune. For someone who claims to be so 'unapologetic' and proud of who they are, its insane to me the lengths she goes to to hide her age. I feel like 1998 Madonna would be proud to show her real self. She talks so much about fighting ageism, but wouldn't the boldest thing be embracing her age and showing her natural skin to the world? Idk
