It captured the emotional and sinister subtext of the story beautifully. Del Toro has the talent to top that... I am so excited! This story is laden with meaning and metaphors... Perfect for him. They are adapting this to live action because technology finally allows artists to create this story through film without the need of an Avatar or Avengers type budget. The story must be told. It teaches self-determination and ethics. Something young movie-folk should be seeing. You don't have to watch it :-) There is the new little mermaid live action for you to look forward to! They are going for a political correctness view on a sexist story. That is gonna be a hoot! If the live action version of Geppetto is Tom Hanks, the live action version of the puppet should also feel more authentic to that real time and place, which would not look like the original disney cartoon. Well, that is gonna be minor problem, it is obvious Disney choose this because they have trademark of it and as you now familiar to many, so why do they have to change it? You need to understand they not just turn their classics into live action because it's fun, but it is also long term business, they wanted to reintroduce their popular characters to younger generation and get them to visit their expensive parks. This theory also supported with how it is hard to find their classic animations on new DVD print now. And so far it must have been working, cos otherwise there wouldn't be any more of these live action movies. When the live action looks different from the OG one you get mad (Belle's dress, Ariel being black, to name a few) but now that this is a close interpretation, you get mad because of that.
