Teletubby 150,317
Ed Sheeran testified that he has not stolen ideas from songwriters for "Shape of You." On Monday during a hearing in London's High Court, he denied that he stole ideas from songwriters Sami Chokri and Ross O'Donoghue on his 2017 smash-hit "Shape of You." The songwriters claim that their 2015 song "Oh Why," which was released under the name Sami Switch, sounds "strikingly similar" to Sheeran's "Oh I" hook in "Shape of You." The songwriters' lawyer claimed that Ed "borrows ideas and throws them into his songs, sometimes he will acknowledge it but sometimes he won't." Ed Sheeran denied the claim that he is someone who lifts other people's work without acknowledgment — and pointed out that he has often shared credit with lesser-known artists. Ed said he approaches songwriting without a "premeditated thought process." "If it sounds good, I keep it," he said in written evidence. "I frequently write and record a number of songs in a day. I have recently had a session lasting a week in which I wrote 25 songs." "Almost all of my songs are written in under two hours. if I haven't written a song within two hours, I see it as a failure." "I think of them as sort of 'excitement bottles' — if a song is working, the excitement pushes it to the point where it's finished. If it's not, then I'll leave it and move on to something else," he said. Speaking about the pressure to create catchy rhythmic tunes, Ed said his record label frequently pushed him to produce more hits, asking "for two massive hits" per album. Sheeran told the court he was "surprised" the claim has been pursued, saying the part of Shape Of You involved in the case is "very short" and "consists of nothing more than a basic minor pentatonic pattern which is sung using the words 'Oh I'". Sheeran is due to continue his evidence on Tuesday, with the trial scheduled to last three weeks. source source "You b*tch!" ~ Rat Boy

2School4Cool 6,449
Everyone under the sun is going to go after a song like Shape Of You because of how popular it is. And he makes a good point about how he credits other songwriters, Collide on his new album credits Ben Kweller simply because Ben’s song inspired the basic concept of Ed listing things he’s done with his wife. He’s not running around stealing songs from people. See The Best In Everyone
