No, not really. Brokeback Mountain is about much more about a powerful connection between two men that allows who they really are to blossom. The Power of the Dog is about the dangers of suppression and denial of one's identity. The similarities start and stop with it being about cowboys, they go in two very different directions from there.

This. Calling either of them a "gay cowboy" movie is just, well... reductive. :reductive:

I love how despite him having a long career, he's known on GGD for being a "ASIB actor" :billie:

White supremacist?  How you get that from what he said?

It just sounds like something someone from that group would say. He obviously has issues with homosexuality, and that tree is right next to the racist white supremacist tree lol .

No, his issue is the unrealistic depictions of cowboys, and that the imagery of the film plays to the gay male fantasy of cowboys. Not liking something with gay themes does not equal white supremacist or homophobic.

I didn't think the film was inaccurate though, it's very understated and beautiful. It's not like Village People or anything blatant and in-your-face. He's obviously oversensitive. Because there were, and are, gay cowboys...

The movie is based on a book written by a gay man who grew up on a ranch, so no, it's not just "paying to gay male fantasy". It's purposefully deconstructing the macho fantasies that men like Sam have around cowboys... he really missed the point completely :huntyga:
