Bling 31,416
The OP is SO 2016 pre-Joanne era There's plenty of other artists "singing" about sex, drugs and partying. Also, note that those things more often than not lead to the themes you're complaining about: mental health, depression, medication, addiction, etc. But this lesson comes with age. Not to mention all the lives she has saved and inspired and given hope by singing about her truths and struggles. I'd take those songs over a "party" song any day. Guest
she talks a lot about herself and her experiences. At some point the first person pronoun in songs made me cringe, even in my own writings....... So I must agree in a way. I'm really more rooting for writers as observers of things, reporters. More like Bowie or Bjork. I'm not saying "I" songs are bad. Like I want your love and I want your revenge is that anthem, and also a study shows how depression makes writers employ the "I" more often.. But that is where I am with - being personal in your writing process.

LunaUniverse 3,858
But is sex and drug addiction not personal subjects on their own? Gaga’s lyrics have always been personal or made to spread as a message, how a 20 something year old writes that message isn’t going to be the same as how a 35 almost 36 year old constructs one 1# Samoyed Stan
Dr Fudge 8,635
LG7 NEEDS to be what brings Gaga artistic joy. Been a cuff touple, a puff bupple, a tough couple of years.
Klonoa 2,194
Why so much comments of people with fragile egos trying to make less of me for giving my opinion? On a gaga forum, gaga thread about Gaga's work. I said nothing about anybody, but there's a lot of passive agressive comments like "imagine being this wrong" like I'm stupid? Whatever. Won't reply this types of comments anymore. And stop lol'ing reacting my posts, and saying I'm trolling like I knew those would be the reactions. Focus on Gaga's art and not on what you think about me zzz.

Inferno 2,880
All LG7 needs to be for her is a passion project that is also a pop album. She made it pretty clear that she had little ambition in making a pop record without Bloodpop being on her a** and motivating her to form what became Chromatica. Post-ARTPOP shes had little drive within her actual pop career, focusing on acting, jazz, and while Joanne is a pop album it had more diverse ambition (which it didn't succeed in but thats another conversation). This relative ambivalence towards her pop career (compared to how full on she was with her first 3 eras), is what makes these albums seem lesser than imo (even though I love Chromatica and it deserved more). Whether or not its "personal" or about money honey is entirely irrelevant imo. Its about whether or not she goes ALL IN. Anyway im rambling now but yall feel me I think. What makes that magic is her devotion, she just hasn't TRULY and honestly been in that headspace with her pop star-ness imo. Layered conversation. Nycboy 1,098
I think something that holds Gaga back is that her albums really aren’t very personal even when she claims they are. Joanne was supposed to be so personal but most meaning is hidden behind vague metaphors. To me that was a huge missed opportunity, even though I love the album. A casual listener will struggle to connect to any storyline. Same with Chromatica. Now that I think about it, same with ARTPOP, and almost all her songs. Her vagueness was cool at first with TF and TFM because obscurity was part of her image. It’s not anymore. Compare this with Adele’s 30, Kacey’s star crossed, Olivia rodrigo, Taylor swift, Beyoncé’s lemonade/self titled album, Ariana’s TUN. Those albums tell stories and they allow the listener into the mind of the artist. They are about real people and real events and real feelings. For example: “I heard one sine from above” is very difficult to connect to a specific moment or feeling in Gaga’s life. Clearly there’s drama and trauma in Gaga’s life and clearly these feelings greatly inspire her work, but I never felt like she TRANSPORTED me to those emotions if that makes sense?? I don’t think every pop star needs to tell heartfelt stories, but I do think it elevates the art. If a pop star doesn’t want to write songs with deep meanings, that’s fine, but I think it’s harder for them to stay relevant over time. You can’t be a party girl forever lol. I’m interested to see what Dua does next.

nodandsmile 10,634
I think she should do whatever she wants to. I'll listen. If I like I support, if not I go back to what I enjoy! It's really that simple
Lucas 27,066
Huh this is why I feel uncomfortable reading comments here sometimes... People need to understand that saying you wish an artist did this or did that isn't disrespectful in any way, it's not going against their freedom either. It's just expressing a wish, which is natural I guess?
