Fake Wokeness surrounding Kim Petras?

Honestly I didn’t want to make a separate thread when there’s already heated talks about Kim going on in others threads but many users seem to be jumping on this moral bandwagon but are not committing to it. I’ve seen numerous opinions here on how Kim is a toxic person for working with Luke and how we should boycott her but let’s break down the situation objectively. I will use a Q&A structure to make things as clear as possible (consider it a snapshot of the debate surrounding her on this site).

Q:Why should we boycott Kim?

A: Because she is working with Dr. Luke voluntarily when she had multiple opportunities not to.

Q:Why is Dr. Luke a bad association?

A: He’s a rapist and I don’t want my support (be it financial or emotional) to be invested into that person or anyone who works with that person.

Q: Will you also be boycotting all other artists/songs/writing credits under Dr. Luke since he still benefits financially from them?

A: No sis, Doja is not working with him voluntarily, so I will still support her and she’s not even in the same room as him, she just has to credit him since she’s under a contract before the accusations and as for Katy’s catalog I will still stream her old catalogue since it was before Free Kesha. As for Dua she just works with his writers.

Q: But you do realize that you are still supporting a rapist? Since he financially benefits regardless of your justifications.

A: But...but...Kim is different and we MUST boycott her to stand with rape victims!!!

This deflection is precisely what I mean. If you are boycotting Kim out of a moral duty, why make exemptions that are convenient to your moral compass? Often times acting morally is far from convenient. This is not to judge someone’s moral stance but rather highlight how it may come across as disingenuous. You start to questions whether someone is actually invested in the cause or simply wants to join the noise for the sake of it. This thread is not about me or where I personally stand on the matter but simply looking to address a specific aspect of the conversation. Hope we can have a civil conversation about it.

People can act in accordance with their own morals. This has been discussed ad nauseum and no one is going to change their mind either way. No need to make a thread accusing people of "fake wokeness"

So lets boycott Doja too :hor:

Bestie you would have to boycott all the pop girlies as well. Doja, Katy, Rihanna, Dua, Adele, Ava, Charli…

Where did you get the impression that this was to change people’s minds? This was just to shed light on a perspective.

Anyone who wasn't contractually obligated to and was willing to work with Dr Luke after the allegations from Kesha became public is someone who I wont support.

I get there's people that pick and choose who to get mad at but honestly, Outside of a handful of people i barely see that.

I'm not personally boycotting Kim or even asking for other people to boycott her or Luke either. Luke has been in the music industry for nearly 20 years and has his roots in deep via his many hits and publishing company that has many top writers and producers signed to it that work with all our faves in some capacity. Boycotting makes zero sense. Unless of course it's a personal choice you're making because you are uncomfortable supporting someone like Kim, who is close friends with and works with several people within Luke's camp (like Aaron Joseph and Baby E) who have mocked and said the most disgusting things about Kesha. I am a fan of several artists who I and many others would deem problematic, but I'm not going to sit back and make up excuses for them in order to sway someone's opinions on the internet. These artists are not paying me, and what I listen to is my business. However, I also won't shy away from any questions that may come up if someone sees me bopping along to someone like Ayesha Erotica or Azealia Banks.

And that’s respectable tbh because you have a clear stance on how you feel

The most annoying thing about the situation is the hoops Kim's stans will jump through to defend her and the people around her. Like, outright lying... for what? It's way more respectable to just be honest with yourself and everyone else and say you like the music and aren't all that concerned about how it may affect Kesha. When I post about Kim, all I'm doing is posting the facts. Whoever stumbles upon them can do what they want with that and make their own choices, but own up to the fact that it is a choice being made. Don't hide behind someone else's identity and make excuses.
