the truth is they did hop on, 80's nostalgia was already trending in a lot in the entertainment outlets, cinema, social media and television, remember stranger things in 2019? epitome of 80's nostalgia, what they did was just bridge it to the music industry, why do you think they made it at the same time? it was already a trend.

yeah, they both did, not Dua hopped on The Weekends like the other user said.

I'd argue the mid to late 2010s was a bad time for commercial radio. The ch*insmokers-H&M-Forever 21-esque beats that plagued every social environment was just horrid. A lot of the "indie" pop girls carried and made this time interesting.

Ah, back when music wasn't boring and depressing :yennefer:

Hearing Adele, Lana Del Rey, Lorde and that type of sound in general take over the radio was terrible for me ngl :rip:

Do you feel him sir?

I think like even nowadays Music is still not ad structurally ambitious as in lets say the 90s, however - the Dance Pop Music was just very fun. Sometimes a good Song to sing along to, feel the rhythm to and just enjoy is all it takes. Not everything has to be the next most introspective, deep Song. We also had those Songs during that time too tho like Speechless, Rolling in the Deep, Russian Roulette, Grenade, The One That Got Away etc.

This

Until then, this is Elvira saying unpleasant dreams.

2015-2019 was kinda the worst time because even when pop girls tried to deliver pop, it bombed.

It was a good time and a bad time because it gave us Lady Gaga and Katy Perry's Teenage Dream era but it also gave us fun and silly things like The Party Rock Anthem and Gangnam style.

This! It was Gaga's and Katy's time to shine with one of the best bops and albums ever! And also not to forget Lana del Rey

This is a question with no objective answer, and it isn’t worth asking. The entire point of the question is to delegitimize the work artists put out at the time, and to delegitimize the fact that people genuinely enjoy that music. It would be fantastic if this site would stop craping on anything they dislike for fun. It’s such a toxic trait. Even just blatantly saying “Was the music from 2005-2015 uninspired?” would have been a better way to ask this without just straight claiming the music was “the worst”.

I think 2014-16 was worse. I mean songs like See You Again, All About that Bass, Cheerleader, Fight Song, Panda, 7 Years, My House being in the year end top 10. The list could go on and on too… The only album from these years that I remember and still listen to is 1989.

Never really stopped to overly think about it, but maybe so. I've never known a time where so many artists were jumping on a trend even if that wasn't their usual genre. I guess so many thought their careers could be over if they didn't adapt. It was when this periods was over and I saw BEP go back to their hip hop/RnB roots that I realised will.i.am was all about trying to put out albums that reflected the sound of that time, not realising that that's the quickest way to sound dated. This was also the time that the pre-order system came into place in the UK where singers put their songs on reserve for sometimes as long as 3 months while promoting it in the meantime, gathering up all these pre-orders and then when the general onsale release date finally came, they would effortlessly debut at #1. It made a mockery of the concept of weekly charts and it meant so many basic songs went to the top that would never have been able to normally. I've actually tried to memorise which ones they were so I can always pull that up to hold it against said artist in the future to show that #1 was essentially meaningless. Thank God it all ended and Gaga was never a part of it.

I look back fondly of the early-to-mid 2010s, I was always a fan of the pop music that was more singer-songwriter based. I loved turning on the radio and hearing Thinking Out Loud, Stay With Me, Take Me To Church, Just Give Me A Reason, We Are Young, Pompeii, When I Was Your Man, Mirrors, etc., so many great singers singing music that really had soul to it.

2012-2015 was a great period to me.

we're literally just in the period between 2010 music being current and being classic. In another 5-10 years it'll be in style again and we might even get new music that sounds like it again. Ava Max is ready :bear:
