No one who knows about the genre would tell you that billy idol plays metal. There's a huge difference in the way that gaga's singing, her technique is different, she's belting out all the song, at the end she makes a key change belting out, she make some distorted vocals etc, just the way there's a huge difference between the way james perform vs the way billy performs, outside just style, it's also the type of music they play. it's also different the way miley performs Nothing else matters which is a rock ballad, and that song goes much more with her style, i think that's part of the reason she chose that song instead of a full metal song. And the song she did with billy idol, night crawling, i wouldn't even considered it a rock song, it's a straight up pop song with some minimal guitars lol. Gaga has been also performing and making songs with Mick Jagger and Brian May since 2011 but i purposefully didn't count that because they just not play heavy metal, same with miley's case... I wrote out a whole paragraph response but honestly we probably won’t come to an agreement. I’d probably need to read journal articles on the history of Metal and its relevance in pop music to come to any conclusion but if you guys want to attribute the fact that a handful of today’s pop stars grew up enjoying Metal and now want to perform it to one Gaga performance in 2017 I won’t stop you. I just think it’s a topic that is a lot more complicated than that.

Roseblud Kisses 685
Don't forget how in 2011, Gaga even worked as a roadie for Iron Maiden on their The Final Frontier World tour, and even way before that, when she was barely 19 she was working as a stripper at heavy metal clubs in New Yorks Lower East Side. Honestly, she has liquid metal flowing thru ha veins Skinni Pussi ConfirmedT

No the collaboration itself wasn't cringey, what was cringey was that live performance. I mean they killed it in the rehearsals. I just think it’s a topic that is a lot more complicated than that. you should've kept the paragraph, the idea is to have a conversation about it, not to agree right away. As i said before metal was very popular in the mids 80's mostly, it reach its peak of popularity with the big four of thrash (Metallica, megadeath, Slayer, Anthrax) and then all the bands from the new wave of british heavy metal, then hair metal made it very pop too in the us, with Mötley Crüe, then after the 90's it took off again briefly with nu-metal, but that is a very controversial genre too, at that point it started to decay only in terms of mainstream appeal, because after that it has become more rich and varied as a genre that any other. But a pop artist collaborating with a metal band? this was unheard of and it never happened until gaga at least in this century. you can research that, i don't know why it is so difficult to believe when someone does something first in a pop medium like that it certainly sets a precedent, and it pushes the boundaries of what can be done, i don't think other popstars were directly inspired by gaga and metallica to do it too, but it really allows them to consider the idea and it shows that it can be done. specially when said others pop artists had described metal as just a "phase" for them before. That metallica/gaga performance was an event not only in pop culture but also in the metalhead community for how controversial and divise topic it was, it is a genre with a lot of snobbery within the fanbase. Honestly, she has liquid metal flowing thru ha veins yeah, she has even pose proudly for some pop magazines wearing iron maiden shirts, she's been a vocal metalhead since the beginning and has been consciously injecting it slowly for her followers, but i only count in the point where she actually collab with a metal band in a big mainstream pop medium.
