U know those tiny bits of grass or concrete where yield signs are to make a right on large intersections? Thats valuable unused space right there. Maybe we can build a few shoebox condos there to help alleviate the housing shortage While im at it when i buy a house maybe i can add some housing supply by renting out my laundry room to help pay my $1.5M mortgage ill have. Also who needs 2 bathrooms? Ill rent out 1 to a family, the toilet can have a dual purpose as a chair and the bathtub can also serve as a place to wash clothes while sink can provide water supply and a hot plate can go beside it for cooking and ur kitchen stuff can go in drawers. I hope everyone realizes im joking in my comments not trying to diss immigration Immigration may be agravating the housing crisis but its not the root cause to blame. As fast as the population is growing now weve had periods in history where the population as a percentage grew even faster including early 20th century as well as during the baby boomer years and the housing demand they caused when they grew up to start their households In those periods housing did not have as much of a hard time keeping up nor did prices get so out of control like they have in the last 10-20 years I think its a combination of modern investment speculation, terrible slow permit approval processes and inneficient red tape on zoning laws builders complain Canada has become terrible for, and NIMBYs (not in my backyard protestors that stall or outright manage to stop half the housing projects that are approved) Those factors combined have been lethal to affordable housing Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Kitchener (where I live) has a real housing problem yet everrry development has some community group or another kicking up a fuss at council meetings. I live downtown in a "heritage" district in a condo building built in the 70s that would NEVER get approval if they wanted to build it today. omg people would set themselves on fire protesting it haha.
