Suspiria 10,683
I'm surprised by how well it blended together musically. It somehow felt a lot less rushed than JLo and Shakira's where they were trying to cram in as many snippets of different hits as possible. And as far as I can tell everyone was performing live, which is nice. I think the stage design was pretty weak though. That little street looks so awkward in such a huge stadium, and most of the crowd wouldn't have even be able to see much if the performances. The big plastic map on the ground just looks bad when it starts to crinkle up. I like that they tried something different but it just wasn't successful in this case IMO. erfaan 2,815
Surprisingly, I loved it! I think it was a great representation of Hip Hop/Rap and black excellence.

Me too. I loved it! Camaraderie, team spirit, mutual respect... It's obvious they've known each other for a while. Eminem kneeling with his head bowed, Dr. Dre playing the piano next to him... Arresting moment. AMAZING show. In my opinion, the halftime show should feature multiple performers, not one or two. It's the Super Bowl! Not golf or tennis. 🙂 she/her/hers
StrawberryBlond 14,862
While not a big dance spectacle, I really thought it turned out well. The stage looked really small compared to other ones and I'm not a fan of SB shows in the light but the choices for that setlist were top notch and that's all that really matters. I felt they performed a good enough portion of each song instead of hurrying through them. You can't deny the energy from the crowd to experience a home game with local rappers, you could hear how into it they were. And I'd take renaissance rap over modern rap any day so I'm glad they went classic instead of just playing to the young crowd. And the fact that all these songs had to be censored was proof that they're still solid songs even without the swearing.

The halftime show has been a white man's game for a very long time, with only a few notable performers of color getting the chance to come and stun. But even with them, save for Beyonce's moment with the Black Panthers, there's never been a halftime show that has been such a celebration of black culture whereas there's been plenty of shows that played into everything a white audience wants. This show featured so much love and gave such visible representation to different generations of black culture from the set they performed on to the clothes that they wore. The fact that the NFL did actually try to tone down certain elements but the performers went out and did it anyway is a massive thing for the community that they came to represent. This show has been long, longer overdue, especially in the wake of the NFL's own issues when it comes to freedom of representation and race. This may not have been legendary for the gays who go to the halftime show looking for a big pop girl spectacle, but that doesn't mean it wasn't legendary for doing exactly what it set out to do and exactly what it set out to achieve. As a POC and someone born and raised in LA they could have represented and told the story of the city and its minority communities on a visually larger scale than what it was. Snoop and Dre - Legends! Their show? It didn't give. That's all I'm sayin.

I mean weren't Snoop and Eminem just wearing the outfits they're most known for? Some men do go above and beyond. Exhibit A: Cee Lo Green, Superbowl 2012.
