She denied saying this years later.

However, Streep denies ever making the comments telling USA Today, “No, I didn’t say it. That’s one of those things you can never erase from whatever it is, the Internet. Why would I say that'”

She explains, “I was out of the running by the time they got the movie together. It’s a fabulous story, though. Oh, and I don’t think I can sing better than her. And I certainly can’t dance better.”

This is like those Millie Bobby Brown memes. Like, fans know they wouldn't say those things but Karens online can easily fall for these and be messy.

I’m a Madonna fan, but I’ve always swayed on if I liked her in this role. Her acting wasn’t as bad as others claimed but she was great in some scenes and underperforming in others. It made me question if that really was her best take. If that was the vision and direction that Alan Parker wanted, then that was his artistic decision. I thought the overall sympathetic tone they had with her character was odd, considering the original musical showed a myriad of emotions and tones, because Eva Perón was a divisive figure.

My problem was the restructuring of the songs and her flipping into head voice. She doesn’t have the ability to belt some of the notes the way I was accustomed to hearing them. They just didn’t pack the punch, especially songs like Rainbow High. The problem is there is a record of others singing it, and sounded a lot better. I know she worked and trained really hard for the role, which ironically payed off in the recording of Ray of Light. Her voice has always been like a high octane helium ish tone, which has worked perfectly in the pop landscape. It could work in musical theatre but in very specific roles.

That quote is so unlike Meryl, but so unhinged that I want it to be a true quote :cryga:

i still secretly believe she said it :ally:

but since at the time there was no internet and she didn't say it on camera probs now it's very easy to just deny it
