This has 100% happened in the past, I believe as recently as Jennifer Lopez with Hustlers. I remember reading the exact same thing- that they expected her to be nominated. It wouldn't make sense because Kidman and Colman both seems locked at the moment. If that's the case, then Gaga just don't have enough passion compared to them. connorfilm 7,295
I guess I would be more bothered by this if she didn't already have an Oscar... but she does. If anything, online pundits and "experts" all built our expectations up saying she was a lock for a nom.

Fresco 1,688
I see some people want her in an indie film. I do not. I don't watch indie films. I never pay to see indie films. I may end up watching a few on a streaming service that I already subscribe to. Besides, her music videos are all indie films, sort of. Get the big budgets if they are available. I would also say to stop chasing awards. Just do the next stuff for entertainment, not awards. It's the entertainment industry, after all. Happy and fair Hollywood endings are pleasing to people. Have enough people on staff to avoid really big mistakes. No tear jerkers that leave an audience feeling wretched. Gory bloody movies are gross. She may actually want to only do drama films and that's ok too. It's her life to live. And it's unneccessary to do all this extra press to promote the movie. I'm pretty sure many actors have contracts that require very few press appearances after filming is done. They do more than 1 movie a year and limited press appearances. And I think Renate (who won Cannes) arguably gave one of the best performances of the year (I...might have watched the film illegally online lol) and deserved a nod more than Kidman/Chastain...and yeah even Stewart. I'm almost more annoyed at Ruth being snubbed. She had the best reviews out of all of the supporting actress contenders, was in a well reviewed film that wasn't polarizing, etc. I think that all the persons nominated deserve it, no doubt about it. Simply, I don't see anything that could grab the attention of the general public: no star, no movies masses really loved (the best picture, excluding Dune, is a mix between "arthouse film people really like" (the power of the dog etc) and "beautiful movies that kinda flopped" (WWS, nightmare alley). I mean if Stewart or Colman win, it's the same for me, nothing to really be excited about, I will think it's deserved regardless. It completely misses the "wow" factor for me this year (well, probably is stewart wins a lot of people will be happy, I like her but not that much to be thrilled about her winning). of course, this is just my opinion. LastNight 5,935
What a shame! Gaga was fantastic in the film and a worthy nominee. It's hard to be objective because we're fans and naturally saw and interacted with more HoG stuff than the average person might, but it did genuinely feel like there was a real buzz around the film, more so than the others. It seemed like a real stand-out in terms of attention, coverage and opinions, and also had longevity, all of which seems so rare nowadays when everything moves so quickly. Much like ASIB, it felt like an event - a pop culture moment - so it's a shame that it didn't get the cherry on top with nominations. But, not getting a nom doesn't take away from Gaga or the film, she was brilliant and this doesn't change that. Hopefully she's not too disappointed, and fingers crossed it actually leads to a healthier relationship with her work. I know Gaga says she doesn't care about awards, but she and her team clearly work hard to position her as a credible actress and a worthy candidate. Personally I think she feels a certain pressure to legitimise herself with Academy recognition for her acting work. Not to say that she goes to the extremes she does all for an award, she clearly cares about her art above all, but I think it must play a part. Sometimes we need a little knock in life to re-adjust and re-prioritise. Maybe (even if indirectly) today's result will give her some freedom to loosen up with her approach and take the pressure off a bit. A hit movie with an acclaimed performance and nominations everywhere else seemed like a sure bet, but it didn't come through - now that the "worst" has happened (take with a pinch of salt), maybe it'll be somewhat freeing. Or maybe she'll get her revenge and take all the attention away from the awards with a Top Gun soundtrack song release soon, and follow it up with a Italian-Disco Dance EP dropping the day after the Oscars
freebit 6,240
Another thought: I hope Cher calls her - she knows exactly what this situation is like. I also hope she doesn't stop being her fun self just because some boring pearl clutchers thought she was "too much" on this awards campaign trail. IDK, after years of playing safe, it was nice to see her vibrant personality reappear in interviews again. I also hope she never falls into the trap of doing boring awards bait and continues to choose projects that have the nerve to actually be entertaining, and yet are not dully basic. I think she's really done a great job with choosing ASIB and Gucci, two films that appealed a lot to women and gay men (two under served movie groups), like, there is barely anyone doing movies like this anymore, and I feel this was a key to her gaining new fans in the movie sphere. If that's the case, then Gaga just don't have enough passion compared to them. This has nothing to do with passion or even her performance for that matter. Once you’re on the shortlist and have been nominated at other events, the performances can all be deemed worthy. Kidman and Colman could have been definite nominees as well. For many in the industry (voters and press) it seemed that Gaga was the definite with Kidman and Colman close behind. There doesn’t have to just be one or two. I’m saying there is a psychology behind the choices and patterns of the voting body. They see the same press as we do and for months they have seen articles with “Stewart snubbed” as the headlines. In contrast Gaga has been received by all four precursors. As a voter who doesn’t know how the entire academy will think, they will make assumptions like who is definite and who isn’t. When that happens votes become split more and then shocking snubs can happen. The voters will throw a vote to Stewart because they believe she was snubbed at the other awards, not thinking it may knock one of the locks in their mind out of the nomination. It’s unfortunate, but there have been lots of examples of this because it’s a numbers game.

I think she'll shake it off better than most fans tbh She kind of went through it from the other side with ASIB re: Bradley. She saw first hand all the crazy work he put into that film only to be snubbed as director and beaten by lip-synching Rami... I hope and do think that that experience gave her a good perspective on awards in the film industry.
Judas Oyster 1,914
Sad she didn't get a nomination. Although if she didn't get nominated for A Star Is Born then I understand she didn't for House Of Gucci. She should have won as leading Actress for ASIB. edit: I mean win. Oh, yes, she should have gotten nominated at least. I didn't watch the other nominated movies, so I'm clearly biased I wonder how many of you guys saw all the movies that got nominated. julz 7,010
Im sad because it feels so sure considering those noms from other precursors... and i felt that atleast she deserves a nom for all that she did. But it's a driving force for her to learn more and improve more, so thats really exciting as a fan. Im just glad that she is in the movie industry now and living her dream. Chin up! Paws up!
