To be fair, Jessica did a really good job in TEOTF, don't you think? I'm also low-key looking forward to the meltdown from that one youtube critic who hates her guts 6 minutes ago, freebit said: A lot of indies turn into Oscar bait though. I think to avoid that, it would be best to work with the truly wild, avant-garde types like Lars von Trier and David Lynch etc. You have no idea how much I'd love to see her work with Lars, they seem like a perfect match. God just doesn't want me to care about the Oscars this year, I guess. I'm so mad at Ruth's snub. Also, if LMS didn't take the bait and were smart they'd shut up right around now because film twitter is more worked up about Ruth being snubbed than dragging Gaga. But by being loud, they are just...redirecting their attention towards dragging Gaga.
zakariah 11,721
i didn’t see penelope cruz’s nomination coming at all i still had some expectancy for kristen stewart, but the academy must’ve absolutely HATED house of gucci for them to snub gaga oh well, you win some, you lose some, on to the next role gaga next stop: the grammys
elijahfan 26,275
This, plus Denis Villeneuve not getting a nod for best director are capital B bullshit, but whatever. Their ratings are a disaster, so it’s their loss tbh.

I'm not really used to it No one on film twitter will admit this and I'm not saying this to drag other actresses...but Gaga really did barely campaign in comparison to Chastain and Stewart. Both of the were popping up on social media at screening and parties every other week (long after their films premiered, while Gaga basically only did a handful of those events before Gucci dropped and one after it was released)....and if Gaga was doing that you know we would have seen some evidence on twitter. But she got disproportionate attention from the media, regardless of whether she said something cringe or not. I think some of the things she said hurt her (but also Javier repeatedly defended Woody Allen so the film community isn't exactly fair in how they criticize people for campaigning)....I think the fact that she didn't campaign that much also hurt her (but people, even film journalists, will never admit that she wasn't out there as much as some of the other actresses). But ultimately I think it was just a very competitive year, MGM kind of screwed up as most of their projects were snubbed, and the film having mixed reviews hurt her. MOT 3,074
Was she 'snubbed', or did she just get less votes than the five nominees, along with a couple of hundred other actors ? Maybe the voting for all the awards was really tight and this was the one she happened to lose out on. They chose to make a movie with a cast of high-profile non-Italian actors pretending to be Italian people speaking English. That sounds like a recipe for box office success rather than for awards success, and that's what they got. Gaga gave a great performance, despite the handicap of having to put on that accent, and then she put herself out there and campaigned hard for the movie. Job well done. They were all so up in arms about the out-of-context Mommy and Daddy quote from Variety. I actually...think that would have happened. And I know outside of the film twitter bubble/stan bubble no one would really recognize it, but if they tried hard enough it could permeate the GP. After all, at the height of when people were hating Anne Hathaway even the NYT ran a nasty article on here.

DrewPa 3,762
It's a very strange year for the Oscars: there's not one name, not one film (apart from maybe Dune) that can really grab people's attention on the night. Personally, apart from Gaga, I've lost any interest in watching the ceremony, I hope Dune wins because it deserves it, otherwise whoever wins, congratulations but I don't really care. I watched like 100 interviews tho they were all kinda boring and she always said the same stuff Sis Stewart was at so many dinners thrown by NEON and screenings after she was snubbed by SAG and covered like 10 magazines in the past month. As stans, we're way more attuned to Gaga but as someone who follows a lot of film twitter accounts...she was always popping up everywhere. Now film twitter will never admit it because she's their favorite (and I like Kristen, I'm not trying to drag her) but she was way more out there than Gaga. Gaga did give a lot of interviews before Gucci was released an several interviews during awards season, but nothing like that...

I'm more affected by Gaga not being nominated here than my own life problems. (I applied to over 10 scholarships last year and got rejected by all 10 and I felt better than I do now) LOL Like why? how? So funny, how us fans are more invested into our idol's life and career sometimes than our own. But hey, not every project she does have to get an award or a nomination. I mean of coz, it would be amazing if she does but even if it doesn't, well...that's just life I think. We don't always get awards for every project we do at school, work, etc too. i'm always rooting for her because i feel like she's the only person that truly represents who i am in the mainstream, seeing her in those spaces is like seeing a part of me there too in a strange way, much more if you feel like she actually change or saved your life with her art. it's always close to your heart, it's beyond a parasocial relationship, it's spiritual, and it goes both ways because she also says that she sees god in her fans.
