Omg ever since the BAFTAs Nominations some memebers are constantly derailing every thread with how they don't think Gaga isn't deserving and is a mediocre actress or whatever narrative they are having. Please STOP!

I don't get it, I understand the first time to disagree, but again and again it's tiring, yeah you said it first time, we get it, you didn't like her acting. But to channel this energy into every thread. I'm an acting major and I don't think there are any bad moment's in Gaga's acting.

I will not watch House of Gucci

maybe scenes you didn't like, but as far as calling it mediocre? what are you talking about? can you give a example?

It's hard to explain how I feel her acting was GOOD but not GREAT and the difference between that but you know in that movie the worse was Jared Leto hands down, Adam Driver was very dull so I'd be more surprised if he won an oscar for this movie. And I'd be surprised if Ridley Scott won something too, because the movie was not good. I'm looking forward to see Gaga in a good movie well written and well directed to really judge. I apologize if I ruined your thread, I will have to stop talking about this in the future

I am just reminded sometimes of these great superb actors who've only won one oscar, one BAFTA and come from the theater, and worked for a very long time and then see Gaga having all this praise so fast and award nominations, it's just weird. But I think because the movie business, it's changing and it's not the same now as before. I always sound like I think Gaga is not talented and was bad, she wasn't bad, she was good, but to say that she was great and a genius I can't agree on it. It's not on that level but if she wins good for her, it's just weird to live in a world where Pacino has one oscar, and Gaga wins one in her first motion picture, when Pacino's first movie was Godfather alongside Brando... and that's the same to say with Leo Dicaprio, or Meryl Streep... and Gaga's accent was mediocre, and performance good but not great and she has all this praise, it's odd a bit to me. I'm happy for her because I love her, but being called a hater because of my subjective personal opinion I hate that. Of course I'd want nothing more for her to be very successful in this, but it'd seem a bit fast and I think she could win an oscar for another role and would love to see her grow more and more... I hope I don't get labelled a hater for this

but gaga literally comes from the musical theater, she's a theater kid lol, she's getting the recognition because she's smart and has only involve herself in projects that are meaningful and require from her honest performances.
The only persons i've seen saying her accent it's bad are americans or non-italian people, she had an italian accent coach and a lot of north italian people have been saying that her accent is good and that she captured the way patrizia talked, and the fact that she change a bit the accent when talking with pina was masterful.

As somebody who's had an italian friend and talked to italians at a store I worked in, I think her accent was okay, but not amazing, and at times bad, it depended on the scene for me... ultimately it's not the end of the world, many can't do accents well in a movie, it didnt distract me from the movie and plot

That's the thing, your Italian friend and Italian people at the store you worked in don't represent all the Italians, do they talk the way the real life Patrizia talks? the accent of gaga is very specific, it's a north italiana accent, more specific so that it is adapted from a real particular person, not a cliché or a neutral accent.

Of course the northern Italian or Italian people don't think she talks exactly like an Italian or they would believe that she's a native Italian woman at all, there's no way that absolutely ANY actor that's not a native Italian could do that no matter how hard they try or how dedicated they are, just as me as a native Spanish speaker would never mistake anyone who's not a native Spanish speaker no matter how hard they try, i just can tell who has a real Spanish accent and who doesn't. But they say that hers is good enough and is close and represents well the woman she's interpreting

I'm telling you if this performance was delivered by any other regular famous actress of hollywood everyone would be raving and there would be few to 0 skepticals about it.

Well the world isn't organised as we hope it to be. Strange things happen all the time.

I'm not saying I agree with your assessment but whether it's a "just" world where Al Pacino has one Oscar and Gaga has five is not that easily resolved.

There are legendary musicians who have fewer or no Grammys than some mediocre ones but it doesn't mean the musician who has no Grammys isn't impactful or respected. Awards are evaluated on a year-by-year basis, not career-by-career basis.

I respect all the work she put in this role, but it's still not the best performance I've seen in my life, but she will get there with time. I understand the praise but sometimes I also don't, just my opinion

Still leagues and bounds better than KStew

Why would anyone want to advocate such opinion for threads like this? This is not a thread about how good her acting is, no one asked and no one cares, why some people always feel the need to **** on other people's happiness regardless the situation? Read the room.

Personally, I do care to read other people's opinions, even if they are different from mine, it's what makes reading these discussions interesting. :vegas:

I kind of agree about Jared, I liked his performance but somehow it still bothered me like it didn't quite fit or something. I don't understand why no one is questioning why they cast him in this role just to put 3 hours of costume and makeup on him rather than casting someone else who actually looks like that? It's so weird to me

Anyways on topic: I love to hear about Gaga's process, than you for posting I didn't see this one yet!

It’s best actress of the year at the oscars, not of all time. Having the same amount as any other “great” actor just means you gave a worthy performance that year to be awarded. Not that she’s the new Meryl Streep. I have watched Olivia’s, Nicole’s, Jennifer Hudson’s, and Kristen’s movies for which they have all garnered praise and acclaim and possibly the nomination. There’s five nominees and someone walks away with double or the same number as Al Pacino. And out of those movies, and without the bias of being a fan, Gaga deserved not only the nomination but the win. In fact the only one out of those who was on par was Olivia Colman.

I believe Penelope Cruz could still grab a nom and I would love to watch Parallel Mother’s to se her performance but unless it literally makes me FEEL something the way Gaga was able to do as Patrizia then it should still be hers. Ridley Scott did an abysmal job with HOG. Even the material for Patrizia needed an overall but what Gaga did with what she had and the emotions she put into it she is hands down the best of the year for me. She will continue to grow and refine her craft and hopefully give even more amazing performances, and while this one isn’t perfect it’s still insanely good.

I love Gaga and I also hope she wins for a better film than HOG...but I still do think she was great. She carried the film imo, and that's no small feat when there were issues with the direction/script/etc. It's easier to give a good performance with a good director....so for her to pull it off was impressive imo. I did not expect her to outshine Driver, Irons, and Pacino-and yet she did.

The thing is it is like that with awards every year. There are always 10-15 worthy performances and people will always get snubbed. There are also amazing actors/directors/etc. who are often overlooked by the Academy even if they campaign. It's just the way it is. And it's very common for actors to win for mediocre films even if they have starred in better films (Julianne Moore in Still Alice is the most recent example).

Personally, I feel like Cruz arguably gave the best performance of the year more than anyone else. She's also unlikely to get a nomination. But just because she's going to get snubbed doesn't mean Gaga/KStew/Hudson/etc. are undeserving of nominations.

pussycat

It sounds like she's doing method acting in a really intense and demanding way. I mean she DELIVERED, but I hope she didn't cross a line she can't recover from.
