Up until 7 years ago I (unfortunately) only knew her as Michael's sister, until Spotify played me Doesn't Really Matter which I knew but didn't know was her. I decided to dive into her music and I fell in love ever since. Her streak from 1986 - 2004 is immaculate and won't be touched by anyone. She made real albums, not playlists with quick lil' singles surrounded by worthless filler. Many of her albums tracks are of high quality. These are my top 3 Janet songs. Michael had gems, and the Thriller album and Bad album were incredible. But Janet's music was on an even higher level than those. Her accolades are not debatable whatsoever. She really is one of the most successful commercial artists of all time. So if you arenât aware of ANY of her stuff, thatâs honestly a good reflection of how much her career was damaged post-Super Bowl. Itâs really sad considering how much of a landmark artist she was. Put plainly, Britney, BeyoncĂ©, Gaga, ANY pop girl today wouldnât be here with what theyâre doing without Janet paving a very particular path first. Sure, Madonna played a part as well, but this aint about that lmao everyone references Rhythm Nation STILL (even Madonna to some extent via Express Yourselfâs video).
