Welcome to the world of JANET JACKSON!

Janet Jackson didn't merely emerge from the shadows of her famous brothers to become a superstar in her own right. Starting with her breakout 1986 album Control, she became one of the biggest pop stars of the '80s. Through the early 2000s, she was able to maintain her stature with impeccable quality control and stylistic evolution. Her singles, expertly crafted with indelible pop hooks and state-of-the-art production, consistently set or kept up with trends in contemporary R&B, demonstrated by an exceptional run of Top 20 R&B singles that spans over 30 years. From platinum album to platinum album, Jackson's image smoothly shifted as it projected power and independence. In turn, she inspired the likes of TLC, Aaliyah, Beyoncé, Britney Spears, and Rihanna, all of whom learned a few things from her recordings, videos, and performances.

I don’t know about y’all but being born in the late 90s, I literally couldn’t name you even 1 Janet song. Big stars like Madonna or even smaller ones like Paula Abdul still had some of their songs played on generic pop radio and throughout society but I’ve never heard one of Janet’s songs on the radio, in movies, tv, etc

Pretty sure this thread is not for you then

Queen of Pop. I need to delve more into her discography but my favourite songs are Nasty, All For You and What Have You Done For Me Lately :firega:

Her choreo is incredible, especially on Rhythm Nation

I mean she’s not even close to being in Spotify’s Top 500 artists and barely even has 1 song over 100 million streams…I just briefly went through the top ones and not even one rang a bell :lolly:

This was my favourite Janet Jackson song when I was younger and it's still a bop.

My mom loved this song because it made her think of my grandpa who'd passed away and how one day they would be together again, and now I think of her when I hear this song and hope we'll be together again.
