I also feel like people believe one has to either worship at the alter of capitalism or be a socialist or even a Marxist...when in reality there are a lot of people who think capitalism is deeply flawed but aren't going "destroy capitalism forever." The point is usually a) wealthy people should pay way more taxes b) health care should be universal and so on....

Yeah, she was probably really rooting for paid sick leave before that got cancelled. Not that she needs it tho. Also, like someone else said, she’s just parroting what she’s learned from women less privileged than her, so these comments talking about her wealth are super dumb.

I don’t think Gaga will ever become a full socialist (not that anyone needs her too) but her criticizing it just shows that she really is one of the more down to earth and in touch celebs out there. She’s just great :iamfair:

And she has suffered from it too. Most of her health problems are linked to that. It doesn't matter that she has 150 milions, she still has these problems for life.

Sis I don't think her problems are linked to capitalism, but I think she empathizes with people who suffer from it in part because of her problems.

I remember there was an interview where she discussed that she was very fortunate to be able to afford the best health care and that not everyone has that advantage and it's unfair. She probably realizes if she was poor, she'd be in huge trouble because with her medical conditions she'd have trouble getting the best treatment, etc. A lot of the Born this Way foundation work also goes towards funding underprivileged schools and created mental health resources.

The terrible medical system in the US is a direct result of the flaws of capitalism. If capitalism wasn't so flawed, we wouldn't have a for profit medical industry.

They’re right tbh. Those were my first thoughts as well.

It’s so easy to hate on capitalism because it’s the only system most of us ever lived in and it obviously has flaws, but people never loved better than today. She would’ve never become who she is if there was no capitalism.

and you think she's not aware of that? there is no way people can become something without using capitalist mediums, because that's just the social system that we live in, Gaga has always being a warholian type cynical artist, trying to reflect the absurdity of fame, capitalism, and celebrity, remember telephone having the record guinness of most product placement in a video and yet it is a critisism on capitalism and how the fast food lifestyle kill us?
she has stated since 2008 that money is meaningless for her and that it is about what you can do.

She's right though. Why would her message be invalidated by her social status? So rich people can't be against poverty?

Let's get some things straight:

1. She worked A LOT for it.

2. Other people gave her the money and fame willingly, and not through a government-implemented mandate.

3. Having your name on a product is not capitalism in itself, although it can be used as a tool to achieve capitalist goals.

4. She was born and lives in a capitalist country, she is bound to be affected by capitalism. It's not her fault on which side of the spectrum she was put from the beginning. It's like saying the patriarchy doesn't also affect men negatively, even though they are in the "privileged" position.

5. Capitalism is the cancer of the US and it has spread through all its influence around the world.

If you’re poor and anti-capitalist: you’re jealous

If you’re rich and anti-capitalist: you’re a hypocrite

but if you worked hard + lucked out to become rich and suddenly pro-capitalist… you’re somehow not a hypocrite?

see how you cant win 💀

There are multiple tweets with more than 1k likes dragging Gaga and HOG everyday. It’s best not to sweat the small stuff. We’re only amplifying the hate by giving them a platform.

I mean… personally I’m not really sweating. They’re hilariously wrong, and there are already many smart responses explaining why. Hate was platformed yes, but then dealt with swiftly - so in the end nothing loss, something gained

Her broken hip at least was, she was pushed to continue the shows even if she was in pain, all of this for what? So that the people at the label could continue making money from her.

she was overworked a lot of times and even broke of her hip as a ressult of it, she expressed her frustration about feeling like a money machine and being exploited, and how the corporative world try to own her and control her, and all those things led her into depression because she was tired to fight.
Capitalism and patriarchy does ruin woman's lives, no matter the social status, or what then ruined the lives of judy garland, lady di, marilyn munroe, sylvia plath, amy whinehose etc etc, if it wasn't the patriarchy and capitalism?

Wet Fire

Delusional haters. Gaga has continuously donated to various causes, regularly speaks of them and inspired a generation of lgbt+ people to cope with life.

What have these haters done? Lol.

I think some people are just pissed off at a rich person speaking about poverty because they think they don’t understand it.

In my messy era.

But it's true? What she said it's true. The combination of a patriarchal society and capitalism ruin women. It's so simple to see.

She is talking about WOMEN, not about her. What a bunch of limited brain people :fthis:

Last time I checked she was a woman.  :lmao:  She even says, "It ruins us."  Gaga, you're not in that category.
