pedrohemg 7,802
I'm creating this topic to prevent any unnecessary meltdowns on Thursday morning in case Gaga misses a BAFTA nomination. I know some of you'll be really mad if that happens, and that's why we need to talk a little about it. Last year, the British Academy introduced a new rule in an attempt of promoting diversity and giving more opportunities to British actors and directors. They created juries, a group of less than 15 people who were responsible for choosing all the nominees in the acting and directing categories last year. That caused Viola Davis, Carey Mulligan, and Andra Day to be snubbed there, but they were all nominated at the Oscars later. The actors community felt they were losing their voice, and so the British Academy created a new rule to be valid starting this year: the top 2 most voted will be automatically nominated, and the jury will choose the remaining four nominees. I'll give you reasons of both why Gaga could be nominated at the BAFTA and why she could also miss it. Choose your side, but be prepared for a different outcome. Why could Gaga be nominated at the BAFTA? 1 - She delivered a very good performance. 2 - She didn't miss any precursor, and also received critics recognition. 3 - She's very popular, so she could be in the top2. Why could Gaga miss a BAFTA nomination? 1 - Popularity isn't everything. The top 2 could easily be Colman and Nicole. 2 - The jury might go with more indie performances, specially if the top 2 is filled by two performances recognized by the media and/or critics. 3 - It's certain that at least one of the main contenders won't make it there. Either Gaga, Nicole, Colman, Chastain, Hudson, or Kristen will miss it. But I think two or three may miss. Does it matter for the Oscars? It won't have any impact in the nominations because the Oscar nominations voting ends today.

They just announced the nominations for their Rising Star award, so I guess it'll be around this same time.

Levine 22,803
Thank you for this. Firstly because I didn't know any of that and secondly because it's a great reality check. Accounts with big numbers on Twitter should tag this thread to prevent the mess.
Patriziaa Reggiani 7,647
Whatever happens happens, I hope social media and Stan's in general won't jump upon the bandwagon to tear gaga, if she doesn't get Nominated at the BAFTAs, if she misses and gets nominated at the Oscar, that would not be good for Gaga's winning chances, as most of the time BAFTA winner is also the Oscar winner. Let's just hope for the best. I will not watch House of Gucci
