He gives queens a world wide platform to thrive and perform and make money. DragRace have had 100s or queens, not all of them are gonna love RU. The majority loves and supports Ru. Pearl is just trying to stay relevant Reality shows are all the same , you think Paula Abul had coffee and kikied with the American Idol contestants? Of course not. my advice is, focus on truly problematic celebrities, J.K Rowling, Kevin Hart. Folk that comment so much hate against our community. If you have a problem with Ru, simply don’t watch the show. Imagine thinking the **** Ru said on What's the T? about Pearl was acceptable ("I wanted to destroy her psychologically"). Throw your shade somewhere else, be respectful or do not reply. I'm not saying you have Tall Poppy Syndrome. Tall Poppy Syndrome is a cultural phenomenon. When public figures get too high, we tear them down. It happened to Ellen, Gaga, Taylor Swift, Anne Hathaway, RuPaul, etc. When they become too successful, we create excuses for why that success isn't deserved. Calling RuPaul a "fracking queen" is an example of an ignorant cheap shot that feeds into the anti-RuPaul bandwagon, the Tall Poppy Syndrome. There is no shade or nastiness coming from me. I'm just correcting a myth that keeps popping up on this forum.

Yes, drag race becoming so becoming so prominent has definitely had it's upsides and downsides and we as fans of drag race can really do nothing else except educated others on the origins of drag and I agree, the show itself is very obviously discriminatory and love to tell us that they are just so inclusive instead of showing us. Even with Maddy she was essentially outed in the first 5 minutes of her being there, I think it would have been better if Ru had let her tell the other queens on her own terms. Following on from that the show does have a serious issue with what it thinks drag should be, the idea that drag should only present this very feminine, hourglass, high heels, the whole thing, it doesn't allow for queens outside of that mold and in turn continues to reinforce this stereotype of what women should look like The Tortured Poets Department is out NOW

If you've ever bothered to listen to the full hour long podcast instead of the 2 minute sound bite Pearl posted, you’d know Ru wasn’t even talking about her when he said that. The quote was “I would want to hurt them…in a mental way.” He was responding to Michelle Visage talking about competing on Big Brother and saying how if he were competing on the show, he wouldn’t be able to get along with the underhanded housemates, hence “I would want to hurt them…” Pearl wasn’t even brought into the conversation until after that. Do you really think Rupaul is dumb enough to publicly say he wants to destroy someone he gave a platform to? Ru then explained how he typically holds that vindictive part of his personality back in order to be the bigger person in conflicts. That lead to him discussing Pearl and saying how he could’ve just told her to pack her bags immediately when she got sassy with him but opted not to. Find bussyqueens video on it, he detailed it really well. Regardless though, television is Rupaul’s job. This is how a lot of reality tv functions. The queens aren’t even allowed to talk to each other in the hotels or when they get transported to the studio. 5 hours ago, WheresMy911Alice said: Also, Tammi Brown has claimed she feels the show is Blacksploitation Interesting that’s how she feels. I’m not aware of any black queens saying this. I love tammy but she seems to have a chip on her shoulder every time she mentions drag race. 5 hours ago, WheresMy911Alice said: the producers encourage the contestants to be specific cliches (angry black queen, weird artsy queen, bitchy fem queen, etc) Allegedly. Even if true, this has less to do with Rupaul, and more to do with how reality tv is produced. This isn’t uncommon or particular of drag race. And honestly, I just don’t buy it. Maybe in the earlier seasons, but now? Idk. 5 hours ago, WheresMy911Alice said: What else is problematic about Ru and/or the show? He did say having trans people on the show would change the dynamic and implied that being trans gives queens a physical advantage over cis queens. Yeah, that was misguided. But I think people go way overboard calling him transphobic. Reserve that for people who actually hate trans people and actively do things to hurt them. 55 minutes ago, No Way Home said: and their presence in the drag community Let’s not conflate his comments about trans queens competing on his show with his thoughts about the entire community of trans queens in general. Lady Bunny is trans and a long time friend of Ru’s since the 80s. I don’t think it’s likely he has a personal issue with trans drag queens. But having them on the show at the time just wasn’t his vision I guess. That’s pretty exclusionary, but we see now that even that vision is changing with the inclusion of even more trans queens on drag race.
