Saw a good video today about it. Not just Ru but mostly producers and how they want to portray queens: I was SO SHOOK at her elimination! She's so polished and I was sure she was going to be at least top 5. Unreal.

Taylucifer 5,139
Ru is slightly problematic but it's mostly issues which stem from the show (aside from the fracking) which you can kinda just get over eventually. Definitely the most famous drag queen but idk if anyone would say Ru is their favourite queen. Nonetheless you can't ignore the impact which the show has had for representation of queer people in mainstream media and I don't think that's something which should be ignored. I agree 100%, but I also think we can't dismiss the fact that drag culture as we know today is completely stolen from POC queens, and now we have white girls saying "YAS Kween" and "Slay Mama" Whereas the discrimination on the show is far too much But I suppose it's the type of thing where both positives and negatives will come from culture shift. It's not RuPaul's land, it's his husband's land, and neither of them likely have any say about the fracking which happens on it. Here are further details: "As Wyomingites are aware, RuPaul and his husband probably have no say over whether fracking occurs on their property. The rights to minerals under a given piece of land, including fossil fuels, are owned separately from the surface rights. “Unless you own 100% of the fossil fuel rights under your land – and the vast majority of ranches don’t – you can’t prohibit oil and gas development. You don’t have a choice,” said RuPaul’s neighbor, Jay Butler, a fourth-generation rancher and owner of the 18,000-acre Robinson Ranch. Roads and pipelines dotted with oil wells line Butler’s own ranch. “If you drive north out of Douglas, all the ranches are involved with the oil industry.” While it might be difficult for many landowners to refuse oil and gas development on their properties outright, “negotiating with companies as opposed to just saying no often means being able to get wells and infrastructure located away from sensitive wildlife areas or other areas the landowner cares about”, said Shannon Anderson, staff attorney for the Powder River Basin Resource Council, which advocates for responsible energy development through community organizing. LeBar, RuPaul’s husband, was born and raised in Australia and inherited the LeBar Ranch from his grandfather, who ran a successful sheep and cattle operation along with his wife for decades on the ranch. Georges LeBar doesn’t own or run cattle himself, instead leasing the grazing rights on his land to other ranchers. LeBar and RuPaul did not respond to requests for comment. “RuPaul and LeBar could not say no to oil and gas development,” Butler said. “I cannot say no on any of the ranch that I’m owner of. There’s a healthy tension between ranchers and the oil industry, and you just have to negotiate in good faith.” Ru's given a platform to more queer artists of color, and trans folks, than anyone else in television history. He is responsible for creating an economic boom in a small queer industry. He was as much a pioneer twenty years ago as he is now; recently becoming the most award person of color in Emmy's history, and becoming the first drag queen to host SNL and cover Vanity Fair. All along the way he has used his platform for to benefit the queer community, through AIDS activism or highlighting the issue of voters rights. There are legitimate criticism to be made about RuPaul, because like everyone else, he is a fallible person, however fracking isn't one of them. It's an ignorant cheap shot used to discredit a trailblazing queer artist. Category is, Tall Poppy Syndrome - a perceived tendency to discredit or disparage those who have achieved notable wealth or prominence in public life. Wow thanks for posting this, I had no idea that was Wyoming law! I'll remove it from the OP as most of the discussion is really around the show itself.
