For a site that considers itself pretty liberal, it really amazes me how easy people are willing to ditch the principle of principle of bodily integrity.

You know what's gross? Wanna force people to inject something in their bodies they don't want.

The only problem with that is that most antivaxxers are antimask also. If they respected other peoples rights to not catch the virus it would be easier to respect their position.

Right, right. Sure it’s very contagious and it can be deadly… but the majority of people have survived Covid. My condolences go to anyone who has had people close to them die.
Also, WHO classes obesity as an epidemic. Definitely a public health issue.

once again, obesity is not a highly contagious virus.

If people keep smoking and get lung cancer as a result, should we refuse to give them care as well?

Their lung cancer doesn’t get spread to me or my elderly family members

I don't think being pro-choice is equal to be anti-vax. However, yeah, attending to a rally like that... Girl :shadow:

Being pro-choice/against mandates is not the same as being anti-vax.

Stop equating the right to abortion as healthcare with refusing a life-saving vaccine. It's incredibly disrespectful to co-opt "pro-choice" and "my body my choice" regarding vaccines. You are watering down decades of activism for women's rights.

And stop equating hospital care for unvaxxed covid patients to cancer or any other health condition. Until there's a hugely effective vaccine for those things, it's not the same.

Nobody here is alluding to that comparison.

Evangeline Lilly herself that making that comparison. And by doing so also outing herself that she is a Pro Choice on abortion issues. It's on OP.

Obviously people can trashtalk her for that. But in a general way we should remember this very famous saying "My body, my choice"

I mean there's a bit of a difference between a pregnancy that realistically only impacts you and your partner (and I suppose the environment, but that's a different story) and a virus that you can easily pass on to every person you breathe on ... Clearly scenario #2 isn't just about one person's body, it's also about the bodies of all the people they meet, ever ...

The OP does not make this comparison, but several people commenting continue calling themselves "pro-choice" specifically regarding the vaccine and invoking "my body my choice" in arguments against mandates, so they are inherently making that comparison.

I will not quote anyone, but "my body my choice" regards to vaccines is giving off "All Lives matter" energy. If it´s your choice to put the community you live in danger, it is also community´s choice to isolate and not allow individuals that are danger to public health live in it.

Wet Fire

My body my choice doesn't work when you your choice makes your body a medium of infection spread and kills 2 other people. It works if you live alone on a faraway island or inside a castle because covid is still ongoing :vegas:

No saying, no logic is universally accurate.

I'm all for people to get vaccinated but I already know people are going to trashtalk her here for not wanting to do it so remember what we always say: Their body, their choice.

tell that to an elderly friend of mine who died because someone 'chose' not to get vaccinated and because of that she got covid and her body couldn't handle it. Go on...go to the graveyard and tell her that, please. I dare you.

Let me just add that the antivaxx survived

I am so sorry for that. I also lost someone in my life because they were working with an Anti-vaxxer who infected all their co-workers, even though he had symptoms  . Too bad that the law permitting companies to ask their employees to be vaxxed came later...

not getting the vaccine affects more than just yourself. it’s selfish to not get a relatively harmless vaccine (unless you’re medically exempt ofc, that’s different)

anyway i’m personally pretty far left on the spectrum, so…

lemme be specific and say ‘pro choice’ is gros when it comes to vaccines specifically

i believe in vaccine mandates. you are a danger to society if you’re unvaccinated, and you dont deserve to be in public. you’re putting everyone around you at risk, all because you read some bullshit on twitter.

Just to clarify: If you say you're "pro-vax but anti-mandate" you're part of the reason why we are stuck in year three of the panini with no end in sight, even though it actually could have ended in like June last year. There is no "enlightened liberal centrist position" on this issue. You are supporting an ideology that bastardizes freedom, erodes community support and solidarity and promotes social darwinism.

If anti-vaxxers are "entitled" to their choice, the vaxxed and SPECIFICALLY the healthcare system should be entitled to refuse any sort of service to the unvaxxed. Because it's THEIR body being put in danger by having to interact with potentially hypercontagious f*ckwits that still could get seriously them sick, because these unvaccinated hogs artificially enlongated a pandemic and gave the virus enough time to mutate to circumvent the initial vaccines available.

Comparing this irrational selfishness, and bloodthirsty need to wreck havoc on other people to... being "pro-choice" is in bad taste. That level of reactionary thinking is only one step away from anti-vaxxers calling any sort of mild covid restrictions the new Holocaust.

See that's the thing. "my body my choice" is literally between you and your prospective child. When people use it in terms of the vaccine, it makes no sense because it doesn't just affect you. If you choose to not get the vaccine, you could potentially spread the virus to tons of people. So shortsighted :interestinga:

I know this has been said but I felt I needed to show support due to the utter DELUSION in this thread :reductive:

Tbh a lot of people commenting in this thread/forum are borderline sexist (and tbh racist) white gay men (who are therefore not women) so ... Not surprised they don't understand the difference between "my body my choice" and anti-vaxxing ... Thanks for supporting the side of logic and reason !
